can someone tell the the symptoms of ovarian cysts in piggles please...
coco...
who has had hair loss on her sides one side is worse than the other...it is NOT mites or fungal or any kind of skin condition... skin tests have been done...
she also seems to be very large today...
i have had her a month and she was back to back bred by her pervious "owner" so theres a slight chance she could be pregnant... but i cant feel any obvious lumps or bumps... she feels very soft and squishy almost...
she is eating and drinking normally... pooing and weeing normally aswell.... she is around 3 years old...

it has been mentioned to me that it could be ovarian cysts or bloat...
anyone else have any ideas...?
and obviously i will be getting this checked out by a vet...

heres some pics...

I would rather suspect that the hairloss is connected to her pregnancies - hairloss is not uncommon in pregnant sows, especially repeat pregnancies.

cleo had thinning of her hair when she was hevily pregnant... but it didnt look quite like hers does... its quite wierd... the shape of it looks quite sterio typical to mites... but its not...
I'm pretty sure shes not pregnant... she doesnt feel it anyway...
but then whats to explain the odd shape...?

I had a female that developed ovarian cysts but also eventually developed cysts all over, including in her liver. She had periodic bloat and was a very picky eater her whole life, though all of these things got worse as she got older and the condition progressed.

Later in her life, she began to lose hair like what happens with ovarian cysts, but she also began barbering herself a lot and the hair looked quite similar to your pictures.

She was also a very pear-shaped pig, which I believe is quite common with ovarian cysts, as well. In fact, I thought she may have been pregnant when I first took her in because of her build. Of course, larger nipples are also a sign, but since your girl has had pups her's will be larger anyway.

Is your pig cranky with other pigs? Is she getting more aggressive in general? Does she have times that it seems she simply doesn't feel well? A little more lethargic or tired? Is she a picky eater? Particularly with things that can cause gas?

These were all signs that my Mina presented with. She often had two or three days in a row when she would only pick at her veggies, seemed blah in general and didn't want to be bothered. As she got older the bouts got more frequent and lasted longer.

An xray showed cysts but only once they had gotten really bad. Perhaps an ultrasound is in order. Took awhile for me to get a diagnosis but I think an ultrasound is the best bet for determining if it is cysts and catching it fairly early on.

To be fair it could be either pregnancy or ovarian cysts as the symptoms of both are actually quite similar as they are caused by a hormone imbalance...

The symptoms of ovarian cysts are hair loss on the sides sometimes accompanied by more aggressive behaviour towards others - sows will not always show both symptoms though.

Usually you will not see a different in their size/shape straight away and until the cysts have grown quite large at which point they can become pear shaped.

Personally I would say that it is likely she is pregnant. I would suggest vet visit to have that confirmed though.
