Hi there,

I was wondering whether or not piggies can catch colds? I have a rotten cough and cold at the moment and am worried I may pass it to them. I have kept my distance which has been horrible :0

Thanks!

Hi, I asked my vet this last time they went for a check up and he said 'no' then looked at me like I was stupid, but I still keep my distance a bit when I'm ill!

As far as I know, the opinions are divided. Please use good hygiene anyway.

Classic URI is a bacterial and not a viral infection.

Vanilla, what I want to know is where are the pigtures of your piggies? I love your avatar photo and have searched the forum in vain to see what piggy that is.

I think they do, my vet who is a small animal specialist seemed to think so. Three of my piggies have caught colds within days of being exposed, so too much of a coincidence if you ask me. If you wash your hands before handling you should be ok to hold them, you must be bursting for a cuddle drool

Personally I don't think it's worth the risk, so if I have a cold I use the food preparation gloves you can buy in supermarkets when I cut up their veg; wash my hands thoroughly & handle them as little as possible.
