Went up to feed the girls tonight and for once Elsa is not out and wheeking at the bars. Got them both out on my lap and she's definitely not her usual self.. Normally snuggles into my dressing gown and scoffs her veggies but tonight she just purred a little when I stroked her and had a few unenthusiastic nibbles.. Can she just be having an off day?! She was absolutely fine yesterday and this morning before I left and there is nothing physically wrong with her! :S

She's just pooped on me so she must have been eating earlier today? Could she just have a stomach ache or something?! I don't know what's wrong with her :(

Just put her back in the cage and she's now troughing her veggies and pottering around looking for them but no squeaking :/

Definitely a vet visit required :( I would get her to the vets in the morning but keep an eye on her overnight. Piggies don't have the odd off day, usually they change their behaviour only if they are ill :(

Oh god :( I'm terrified its pneumonia as we lost two of our last girls to it. Elsa is only 4 months or so old?! I can't lose her so early :(

Please don't panic. But I would get her checked over as anything that changes behaviour or stops a piggie from eating can quickly become serious.

I agree a vet visit is the way to go as soon as possible.

Piggies don't have off days so a change of behaviour or eating pattern needs to be looked at sooner rather than later.

Just come upstairs to check on her and she came out of the house to see me then had a little climb up the bars like she does when she begs for food, she's now munching on some pellets. Will see how she is tomorrow morning and try and get her into the vets if she's not back to her wheeking popcorning self! Thank you :)

Piggies can have off moments, but if these persist for more than a few hours or get worse, then please see a vet. As your girl is back to normal behaviour and to eating fully, I would just keep an eye on her for now.

If she is still not quite right by tomorrow, then please have her seen promptly. Switch to weighing her daily at the same time (ideally always before you feed dinner or after you've fed dinner, so you can judge her food intake) as long as you are worried about her. Normally, you weigh once weekly throughout the life of a piggy.

Checked her first thing this morning and she was just sat in the house in stead of out munching with Crunchie :( got her out for cuddles on the bed and she had a little snuggle and an explore. She barely squeaked but when she did it was quiet and she sounded a bit rattly :( going to call the vets as soon as they open see if I can take her in! After we lost two of our others to pneumonia I know all too well how quickly they can go downhill...! :S

Best of luck!

You are a very observant owner. That can sometimes be a little bit of a hindrance as you notice that something is not quite right before any symptoms show up and become diagnosable.

Sorry for the delay in replying! Yesterday was a bit mad after the vets and I've been at work all day! Took her to the vets and typical she perked up when we got there, but he gave her a jab and said not to to worry! She wheeked for her veggies tonight and popcorned after I'd poo picked so I'd say whatever he gave her worked! :D thanks for the good luck wishes, and I very much prefer 'observant owner' to 'overly paranoid' ! :))

So glad to hear she is now doing fine.:D

Definitely an observant owner and it certainly pays to be when it comes to our little piggy friends.
