Today I had to work an afternoon, I hardly ever work afternoons, usually 8-2 no breaks/lunch etc and I'm done, but today I had to work 9-12 then 1- 4 so I checked Ivy at 12.30 no signs of imminent birth, happily munching on hay, everyone else having a snooze. 4.00 finish work, check on Ivy. 4 babies, 3 very tiny one dead. Indy playing silly pigs and jumping on them so immediately move Ivy and babies into emergency cage, clean everything up weigh the babies (72g, 90g, 92g - Violets babies were 102,104 and 96). Buried baby Cinnamon in the garden under the blackberry and picked some herbs and veg for tea. Go upstairs feed everyone, babies look OK but Herbal looks funny, pick her up put her on the floor, her back legs are partially paralysed, she is kind of swimming along dragging her legs. How the heck does a pig who lives in a flat house with no ramp, stairs anything loose leg mobility in 4 hours? I've read something about this in piggy potions by Peter Gurney so sent mum to get Calcium and Vit D from chemist. Hopefully it will work.
Sorry for the exceedingly rambly post but I'm sat here with tears streaming down my face and half a bottle of wine already gone
Sarah

(((Sarah))) sorry to hear about Cinnomin. Could be calcim with Indy is she a babe? Trying to keep up with all you pigs! :)

Have a look through Nemo's thread he was the same and is doing well now.

Hope today improves for you.

So you won't be needing a pig sitter now? Pleased Ivy is ok. :smitten:

Hi Louise, Its not Indy who is ill, just naughty, it's Herbal who is 2 years old, will look for Nemos thread now. Mums just got back with the Calcium so going to try that now, Sorry about the pig sitting Ivy was looking forward to her holiday

Stay calm and try not to get upset, it probably is calcium deficiency from pregnancy/birth.

Sorry you lost the little one, sort mum out and see from there :smitten:

Good luck :)

Ahh sorry getting confused. Your doing great! If I can help anytime just give me a yell! x

Hi Sarah.
Hope you are feeling ok.
Piggies have a habit of giving birth all of a sudden when you turn your back just for a minute, so don't feel guilty!
So sorry to hear about baby Cinnamon ... it always really tugs at your heart when you find a baby still-born ... such a shame. You always think, hey things could have been so different if I was there, but it may not have been different really.

How is Herbal coming along?
Sending a hug to you xx

Thanks for the support everyone, I'm calming down a little now.

I've just given Herbal a concoction of Calcium, vit c and vit d as recommended by Peter Gurney, she is eating/drinking ok and other than the legs she appears perfectly fine. She is the pig that had the chest infection (the same one that killed Maia) so i'm wondering if maybe the medicine she had for that could have caused this?

Ivy and the 'new' babies are looking ok, all suckling ok and Ivy is munching her tea

Violet and the minis are also ok and Indy and Badger will be moving in with Dillon at the weekend ::)

Dont worry about getting the pigs confused, we now have 15 and each one has a picture with their name on above their cages :smitten:

hope your feeling a bit calmer now hunnyx
sorry about cinnamon, bless her little heart.
I'm sure that once you give herbal (GREAT name) the extra vits etc she will be ok, relax babes and start worrying about yet moew names..... its funny i also have a badger so we share a violet and a badger...
My mrs mop is preg (a accident with a rather naughter badger boy) and when she gives birth I will have to think of more names... please God not another 4... i got 11 and am running out of room (and my hubby is running out of patience!)

Oh dear you poor thing :(
I hope everyone is o.k and it hurrys up and gets better for you soon!

Hi all,
A lot calmer this morning ::)

Mini pigs first - They are looking very bright and sparky just very tiny, seem to be suckling ok, one even had a nibble on a spinach leaf. Ivy has cleaned up ok and is just being a little timid but eating/drinking ok

Herbal - I've read Nemos thread (thankyou) and that is exactly what she is like. We are following P.G's recommendations on the calcium and she has had two doses and due another soon. I dont know if i'm imagining it but she seemed to have a little more stegnth in the left leg this morning. She is eating ok but didnt want to hustle for the bowl of veg so I gave her her own portion.

Sending healing vibes for Herbal x
Glad to hear the bubs are ok today they are a worry until you are sure (i still worry about the ones born in february! ::) )

Sorry to hear about your baby cinnamon, its such a shame that you couldnt get to know her. Ive got my fingers crossed that herbal will be okay, let us know any news.
