I've owned horses for years and have always used a product called Canter mane and tail conditioner that enables you to brush out any knots etc straight away without pulling and wondered if there is anything I can do apart from regular grooming to keep his coat in condition and how long should I leave it before bathing them? One is an abby but from advice on here I should bath them together
Thanks

Shampoos

:(|)Hi
Gorgeous guineapig products are great and have a range of shampoos to suit all hair types.
I use them on mine and i have long hair / rex / abby / all types !
Regular grooming is the answer for hair probs and furballs and boars grease spots can be treated with small dab of swarfega to remove excess grease which can cause fur balls at the rear.
Unless you show piggies most owners only need to bath couple of times a year.
Happy bathing

They might never need bathing. My abby never needs bathing, or my short hairs. If their coat feels greasy or after your touch them your hands feel dirty, then I'd wash them, or if they smell. With dogs, they say every six weeks or so is good to wash them, so I follow that for my long haired pig. Washing a pig that isn't dirty could dry out their coat, and mightn't be good for outdoor pigs. If they're outdoors, then make sure they're completely dry afterwards, and keep them in for a few hours after a bath to warm them up.

Regular brushing (with a soft rabbit brush maybe?) should keep them clean and spread the oils over their fur to keep it soft. :)

I use gorgeous guineas posh'n'go conditioning shampoo. It's wonderful stuff, leaves their hair lovely and soft and smells divine.

My merinos and long hairs have a bum bath as they need it, usually every 3/4 weeks as their long hair can get a bit mucky at the back. My short hair has only had one bath in the year and a half I've had her and that was just for intros. My abby girl only gets dirty occasionally so only needs a bath every few months.

Some people bath routinely as they say it prevents skin problems but I personally don't think it's necessary and only bath them if they need it. They don't enjoy bathtime so why put them through it if they don't need it? My pigs have never had any skin problems by the way.

PS. I don't bath them together unless it's for intros as it would take longer to dry them.
