It's now 9 days til we get our first ever guinea pigs! Can't wait!
I've seen a lot of posts on piggies getting UTIs and respiratory problems.

Is there anything I can do to prevent these ie. natural health supplements? For example, we have chickens and give them poultry spice and cider vinegar for general good health.
Is there anything for guinea pigs or are they just prone to both these things?

Many thanks! ;)

I wish I knew - 3 out of 6, of my pigs have had UTI's and Patrick has ongoing bladder issue. I think it's just your luck. The only thing I do for all my pigs is filter there water. ,

I think its a big mystery. I have 6, all kept the same way, all fed the same etc and like Flinstones, I have had three guineas now suffer from bladderstones. The only thing in common with them all is ovarian cysts.

In addition, the ones who are not the best drinkers do seem to be prone too, but really how do you encourage a guinea to drink more?!?

I would love to know how to prevent them as it would save a lot of suffering.

In my guineas who have them I use uriflow and cystease and they follow the Ratewatchers diet and have filtered water which is good for bladderstone piggies.
