Just wanted to ask if you think it would be okay to stop my piggy's nugget food for a few days until his new one arrives?

He's currently on Burgess Excel nuggets with mint, we've noticed he squeaks after his eaten this so moving him to oxbow nuggets. We've read about the the Lucerne and I think this might be causing the pain.

Thank you

Yes it’s fine. I don’t give my piggies nuggets every day in any event.

Please remember that squeaking is usually a sign of pain, and could be pointing towards an issue like bladder stones or a urinary infection.
Please make sure you have your piggy checked out by a vet for the issue causing the squeaking. The type of pellet they are eating won't cause them to be in pain, although it may contribute to their problem.

Honestly, I've been up and down the country literally to figure out what's wrong with our piggy.

Getting sent around like a yoyo!

So much different information from different exotic vets.

No1 can seem to give an answer at the moment so just trying to change his diet. The thing is it's been going on since May and we changed his hay two weeks ago. He eats that you don't hear a peep, he's been on antibiotics for a suspected UTI - I've previously posted a thread about this.

Could be spending thousands and still not getting answers nor really given the best advice from the vets we've seen.

It's tricky so we've decided to change his diet and we will carry on monitoring. I don't want him to become immune to his antibiotics either.

There's definitely a problem and I think some foods he's eating is contributing to the problem like you said- just need to find out what this problem is.

Every pig is different, every experience is different just trying very hard so he's not in pain.

Thank you for your advice.

I’ve just looked at your other thread and am wondering whether you did have the X-rays done?

Perhaps one of the moderators could merge this thread with your other so that we have all the information in one place. It’s easier for us to know what has happened previously and therefore don’t repeat advice @Swissgreys

I try giving more veggies than pellets to my Finn and Lara. I only give small amount of pellets as treats and not as their main meals.
They get endless Oxbow hay, variety of veggies, and very small amount of pellets as treats. I keep pellets around because mine seem to like the crunchiness of the pellets.

Oh that's interesting giving pellets as treats. I never thought of that. From alot of reading and research I know that pellets are a very small contribution to their diet so that should be fine.

Ah yes ours is on western Timothy OXBOW hay. He does enjoy it and since introducing it has been eating alot more.

If you’re having issues with Burgess I wouldn’t get Oxbow.
I read that grains can cause issues in guinea pigs, bladder problems being one of them.
I would go for a grain free food.
Mine are on versele-laga cavia complete but rosewood do one too. There is a grain free version of science selective but I’m not 100% sure about that one.

That's interesting to know! Thank you.
Ok I will look into that. We had ordered some but I will return them if they are going to cause potential bladder stones.
Do you know where you read that from?

I will also look at the ones that you mentioned.
Thank you very much
