Hi all,

I just wondered if any of you have a piggy with cancer? My baby, who I have had since she was a tiny pup, has terminal cancer (diagnosed about a month ago) in what her vet thinks is her joints. She has a big tumour on her paw, and the vet thinks she is too old for amputation and the cancer probably would have spread anyway :( She is on long term metacam (which she LOVES the taste of), and is still her happy self :) I am heartbroken, but am comforted t in the fact that piggy doesn't know whats going on really,

Anybody else had this with a Piggy?

Thanks

I am so sorry to hear that one of your GPs has cancer - it sounds like you are looking after her well. I am sure one of our health and illness gurus will answer this post and give you some advice.

Thankyou, He is such a character, gives me kisses, lays with me whilst I do my work, wheeks SO loudly at the fridge door. I love him so so much, and it is heartbreaking to know the time will come when we have to let him go! x

This is the most challenging part of owning such loveable pets.

I'm sorry about your news. I don't have any advice or experience just to say my thoughts are with you

HUGS

I am very sorry! HUGS!

My Llewelyn was diagnosed with an abdominal tumor deep in his belly four years ago. It had already started to spread towards the guts by the time it was found, so an operation was out of question. As he was not in any major discomfort, I decided to let him pass away naturally in the company of his sow-wives. It was a very bitter-sweet 3 weeks he still had to live.

A time to treasure, but also equally heart-breaking at the time, as you are already grieving. The one big advantage is that you can give your girl all your love and make this time as special as possible.

Please consider having her put to sleep whenever she is in real discomfort. My thoughts are with you!

Here is Llewelyn taking his hand feed top up:

I'm so sorry to hear this. Unfortunately, a few of our members have had piggies with cancer. I'm sure they'll get in touch soon. Please give you special girl a gentle nose rub from me x ,

Hi everyone - thankyou so much for all your lovely messages, they have really made me feel like somebody understands! I have to apologise for how late my reply is, I've been so busy and haven't had time to sit down and visit this site since I posted. Cookie is doing really well. The tumour has grown since diagnosis, but she appears to be managing fine with it- It's been two months since we found out and I feel so lucky to have this time with her, hopefully she will hold on for quite a while longer! what a sweet picture of your piggy wiebke - my guinea pig loves taking her medicine.xx

I'm so so sorry. Poor baby. I hope the remaining time you have together is happy and comfortable for him.
Wish i could give you both a hug, I'm so so sorry.
Just make the best of each day you have together.
x
Lots of love.

:no:So sorry to hear this. (((Hugs))) for you. Cancer is a horrible disease and I wish there was a cure.

So sorry to hear this. It's bitter sweet when you are living with a time limited piggy. Just make sure you enjoy your precious time together and listen to your piggie when she gives you the signals that it's time to let her go. Metacam is adored in our house. One of mine is known as the metacam junkie as she comes to beg for it when she can smell it in the room. So at least you know Cookie is enjoying her meds. Take care of yourself and your fur baby.

Oh no the poor girl, atleast she is happy and part of a loving family

My Angel had a mammary tumour, we managed her condition using metacam, she was with me for a further 5 months before we had to help her over the rainbow bridge. :(

Huge hugs and love to you both x

I am so so sorry, that must be so hard!
But I definitely agree with Claire, enjoy the time you have left with her! It's nice to hear she is still her happy self too, that must help!

Lots of cuddles from me xx

Aww, I'm so touched by all your messages, it bought tears to my eyes that so many people care, even though you don't know cookie! I just wanted to thank you all for your messages of support, I have just read all of them out to my mum, there must be lots of happy, loved piggies out there with great owners! here is a couple of pictures of her (ginger one) and her brothers - Its impossible to get them all in the same photo haha! xx
