Hi,
I know I have posted a thread like this in the past but I really need some opinions here. I have 5 guinea pigs, 4 sows and 1 boar. The boar is housed seprately.

I am strugglying to do the best I can for them so I have decided to adopted some out. Not all of them though. I am thinking of keeping two.

What I was really wondering, how do you choose between them? Do you judge by care of personailty because the long hairs have the best personailty. My boar Pete would have to go I am afraid. I think it would be best for him to be with another boar or a spayed female. He has really never had contact with others.

Also, should I try to adopt them out? They would go to great homes, I would make sure of it. There are no shelters near us so we cant take them there.

Thanks for reading and please give you opinions below.

hey hru ive never seen * on here before yet ** an adult pig so first of all hi and sorry about your situation. i believe if you have to choose, go for the ones that strive for you more in a way trust and love you more for that way the others that may not be as affectionate could see if there is another human willing to try and reach out to them, i dno really it depends on you personally i hope though that everything works out in the best and i am sure they will only ever go to great homes

Sorry to hear your dilemma - you have some difficult decisions to make - but it actually sounds as though you have made the choices already.
Pete the boar would be better with a companion as you have said and if you favour your long haired sows then they are probably the best to keep - although they do need more grooming of course.
If it was me, I would do this process in stages so that you can check your decision as you go ie rehome Pete first, see how that goes etc. If there are no animal shelters, how will you do rehoming? To friends or advertising?

I have no clue anymore. I love themall. Maybe ill just dedicate more time or something. Idk. Oh and i havent been on for a while btw

I am so sorry for the random outburst. When things get too much, I never know what to do. Thank you for all your friendly advice and I will be keeping the piggies. In regards to meagnhannaford, I have not been on the forum in a while. Thanks again, Guineagurl.

i would definately try to dedicate more time if you can before you make a decision you could regret later, good luck xx

Same!

I have 5 and you can maintain them with 10 minutes a day (quick visual check, sweep cage, food, veg , hay and water) I have done this a few times a week since I got them because I work 8.5 + 2 hours travelling + going out for evening/doing uni study etc etc means some nights they only get very basic needs catered for. Other nights they get their 10 minutes essentials + cuddles, foot lotion, run, etc etc but still that usually is an hour every other night or so added up. Then weekends providing weather is good they get time outside in the sun, weeds from my garden washed to eat and more of a physical exam and they get bathed once per month. You dont have to spend hours with them daily to be a good piggy slave :-) Whatever is going on in your life that is making you feel you cant cope with them might go away or ease a little then you might regret getting rid of them

If anything is to happen Id say the single boar needs a friend so either give him up to a rescue/friend/zoo?, or get him snipped and in with the girls :-)

I have 6 guinea pigs and all are rescues so i have 4 hutches to attend to and also 4 rabbits so i do know how sometimes it can be hard but i think you could find the time if you really wanted to and how would you feel if you rehomed them and they were not looked after as well as you looked after them. I broke my hand a few years ago and couldn't lift them and i thought i may have to give them all to a rescue but family helped and i got through that time as i am sure you will.
