I took Donald to the specialist at Chine house today. Estimate for x-ray of teeth and removal of abscess is £250-300. I could have cried (living on as little as possible to pay for the wedding already). I have the money and it's not really an issue because my pigs always come first. I know Craig is highly competent and he did say he may have to do the op tomorrow but I haven't heard anything yet at all and I can't stop thinking about it.

I went straight into town to have lunch with my colleague who is currently on maternity leave and cuddles with her adorable 3 month old baby. When I got home I decided to go to the gym and did half an hour on the treadmill. Now home again and anxious. I know no news is good news (or they didn't find a problem with the teeth or get in there and not be able to do the op) but I am so desperate to know how my boy is and to bring him home!

When do you think is an acceptable time to call them for an update? I'm thinking I need to leave it til 4pm at least

Ok they must be watching this forum :bal:

They just this minute called and haven't done the surgery. He's being done first thing in the morning now so looks like my birthday gift to myself will be parting with a few hundred pounds. I hate the thought of him staying there overnight... Suppose I best go and break the news to his wives

Aw hun, I am so sorry! There's nothing worse than the waiting... Sending lots of loves and healing vibes to Donald. Try and be kind to yourself. Have a bath, watch some rubbish telly, eat some cake... You have to relinquish a little control back to the universe. You've done everything you practically can for him now, and he's in the best hands *hugs*

Thanks, I feel so bad for him. I've only had one other piggy operated on there and he died a few hours after waking up which doesn't help (he had a deep and very large abdominal abscess so very different ball game). I feel like I shouldn't be putting him through this but an abscess is an abscess, it's not going to disappear of its own accord and i know abscesses can kill.

I know that feeling all too well. Been there, done that, got the tee-shirt as it were. Try to think of how much he will being fussed over right now. I bet he has nurses sneaking cuddles and cooing at him. And like you say, an abscess is an abscess. This is a needs must situation and you are doing the very best thing by him. A couple of days from now, he will be feeling so much better. Be positive. be hopeful. Send the right mojo out into the world.

Huge hugs to you Kelly, I can completely understand your worry. He's in the best hands x

It’s never easy leaving them at the vets or waiting for news post surgery. Even when you trust the vets implicitly there is still that feeling of anxiety and your mind can’t stop tormenting you with what ifs. I know that full well - we’ve had so many ops this year. Just try to take your mind off it by thinking positive thoughts - wedding planning or crocheting more woolly pigs or whatever you can to distract yourself. You know you’ve done what you have to do. Now it’s down to the experts. And he’s in the best of hands. No doubt he is being petted and fussed as we type these messages. Positive thoughts for tomorrow xx

I'm sorry Kelly that donald is poorly,i overslept so my 3 piggies are going friday at 8.30 am.my asbo pig is getting neutered, ive a piggie that probably needs her eye removing tomorrow.it is a worrying time.I'm probably too laid back, but this is my 11th boar that has been neutered by Craig and all have not had any complications.you are in good hands.i was shown around the area where the exoitic are cared for,it is really clean, away from dogs and non rodents, now have a vet nurse specifically for post op rodent care at night .try and keep busy,i will see if i can see how he is when my two piggies are admitted, both are staying overnight into sat.

Oh poor you. More worries. No doubt that Donald will be fine after all the healing vibes we are all sending him.
It is a lot of money but of course you know he is worth it but after all we are only human and obviously think to ourselves - what a fortune - not again! Yes. of course you will find the money from your Wedding Fund but heres hoping it will be the last outlay, piggy wise for a while.
It's great that @eileen knows them so well and can reassure you its a great , well run practice.
Will be thinking of you and Donald tomorrow. x

Huge hugs Kelly ,you are such a caring person. You always do the best for your piggies, i get so anxious over people and pets when ill so I know where you are coming from with the anxiety. Fingers crossed all goes smooth tomorrow for Donald. Massive hugs mate x
Sending you lots of love too Eileen for your little ones in tomorrow also X X.

Aww he will have op buddies then... They best not conspire behind our backs! I did keep an eye out for you today and wondered whether you had had to rearrange. I've had piggies treated by Craig before including when my vets couldn't see Bumbles spinal arthritis. I know he's good. Glad to hear about the aftercare too. They were good on the phone and said I could call to check how he is but I know he will be fine. He lived alone post neuter and managed fine. I think willow looks a little lost without him though lol

Thinking of you and the piggies today. x

How is Donald now?

@eileen was fabulous and checked on him this morning when her piggies went in.

I'm on my way to pick him up now. He had the op a few hours ago and has come round well. He's bright and although he hasn't obviously eaten by himself yet he has taken syringe feeding really well. Craig has removed two small abscesses and a fatty lump in the same area, I've only spoken to the nurse so far so might have more info later. The x-rays showed no problems with teeth at all so hopefully that means once he's healed it shouldn't come back.

Fingers crossed! Will hear later how he gets on. Xx

He had a touch of syringe feed earlier and then a piece of carrot so can't be in much discomfort. I nipped up earlier (he's in the spare room with the window cracked and the radiator off so warmer than outdoors) and gave him more veg. He's pooped all over the cage, has clearly munched some pellets and although he hid he did come running out to grab some green pepper to take to his hidey. Clearly he's going to be absolutely fine

Yay, Donald! Hope you're 100% back to normal soon!
