Hi,

My boy Captain gets a medley of veg daily. Yesterday I noticed that he had left all his veg except his carrot and only ate hay. Didn't go near his dried mix either. Strange. I picked some grass from the garden and he showed a real interest in this and ate it all. Last night, he didn't eat his supper and left it most of it. A few nibbles at the carrot. THis morning, I gave him a big handful of grass and yes, he was eager to eat this.

He is pooping ok but seems a bit lethargic. He has remained in his night bit in his hutch and has not been venturing out into the day bit.

I wonder if he is simply bored with his veg as he seems very keen to eat his grass and hay. I'm going to book an appt at the vets itonight just in case.

One other thing, he is 1 year old. His rear end was quite pronounced last night but maybe I am confusing this with the testicular area which has always been large. Could he be impacted despite releasing poops? I wonder if this is making him uncomfortable.

He receives the same veg as my other guinea pig and he is fine.

He can have impaction and still poop, he harder poop normally pushes through the softer bulk.

Sometimes guinea pigs are fussy with their food, but if he is being lethargic there may be more cause for concern, id he getting enough vitamic c?

btw if it is impaction, the vet will show you how to clean it out etc tonight

I've got an appt today at the vets at 11am and my boyfriend is taking him, armed with notes of the symptoms. I am at work all day.

I don't like the thought of a piggy waiting 8 hrs until I get home from work. Good job my boyfriend is an oil offshore worker and gets loads of time off.

Hopefully he is just being fussy and that there is not any underlying problem.

Also if he seems off his food sometimes, why not try a day or two of metatone tonic to 'pick him up'?

maybe it's his teeth thats the problem? maybe he ate the grass as it's easier to eat than the other veg?

He's been seen by the vet.

Teeth are wee bit wonky but the vet thinks he still has a good grinding motion. He was a bit gassy and she palpated his tummy. He pooped all over the table which relieved him and he is not impacted.

He got a shot of fluids and a painkiller and I've to keep an eye on him for next few days.

Well done Captain for pooping at the vets O0 O0 My vet loves it when they do this as he says it's a healthy sign O0
Awww give him some cuddles from us :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Awww bless him, glad the vet doesn't seem to be to worried. Fingers crossed this is all it is. Keep us updated. :)
