Captain Jack - Very Poorly

Hmmm, another update... unforuntately he has lost quite a bit of weight (down to 777g from 860g) and his wound is a bit sore / seeping. I cleaned it up last night, it appears to be where his nipple would have been (which I guess was part of what was removed). The stitches have dissolved or fallen out, but there are still a couple of sore bits where the stitches are a little 'open'. The bit that is most sore has a pea-sized lump underneath which was oozing a bit. :(

I'm keeping it clean and he's back on the baytril. He's eating ok - anything else I could do?

Sorry to hear CJ has had a setback. It always happens when you think they're pretty much home and dry! I would be slightly concerned/questioning of the oozing lump - it may be normal, but without having it checked out you won't know if it's a normal reaction or if it's an abnormal reaction. If Vedra's travel plans are still as they were at the start of the year, then she will be away until Sunday (with cover at the Wyton 'base'), but you should still be able to text/call her and discuss it with her.

Sophie I'm so sorry to hear this. Maybe it isn't all bad though. Are you giving Baytril at 0.4ml twice a day? I don't know what to suggest other than keep him eating and on vet bed or towels.

Fingers crossed.

Sorry things have taken a turn for the worse. Healing vibes are coming your way :)

Well I've found out what the problem was... where the pus was coming out, there was a bit of stitch left in that hadn't dissolved and had got embedded and infected. I've carefully removed it, and another bit further down, washed it all out with Chloryhexadine and put him back on Baytril and Metatone.

I hope that was the root of the problem and now it's out, he'll get better :)

Aww,Poor Captain Jack! I think you'll of made him all better like only a good mommy can. xxxxx

Oh good job you found it. Sounds like that could have been the root of the problem. These boars, they do make us worry!

Healing vibes coming your way,

Sophie just caught up with this thread - so sorry you've had a set back.

Sounds as though it was the stitch - well spotted. Its curious how some of the stitches seem to take forever to dissolve, they just hang on in there don't they?

I really hope he continues to gain weight, give him a big hug from us all here at LB.

Take care x x x x

It sounds as though the sticth could have been the problem.:( At least you were able to get it out & clean up his wound. Hopefully with your care it will heal no problems. :))

I had a pig who had major abdominal surgery & he was allergic to the first lot of sutures. They too reacted similar to CJ & once removed the wound healed very well & quickly. Let's hope this is the case with CJ. If not I'll send Legolas round to boss him back to health! Legolas would scare anyone back to health! :{

Squekas & hugs from my manly quintet

Michele
