Our little golden boy, came to us with his brother in November 2014 as a young active pig, but progressively became more and more ill with bone, dental and heart problems. We found out that this was probably due to being a 'satin' (Guinea Pig Welfare » Satin Guinea Pigs).

Such a sweet-natured, brave and inspiring pig, it was truly an honour to have known you.

Can't stop thinking about you - really hope we get to be with you again someday little fella because we miss you so much.
xx

I am very sorry for your loss; he certainly has got the satin shine. OD (or satin disease) is perhaps the worst curse that has come out of breeding because it is a slow, agonisingly painful progressive disease.

There is currently a little satin piggy called Moo in rescue in Brisbane in Australia; she was rescue born to normal parents who must have both been hidden satin gene carriers. Perhaps it can help you sponsoring her in lovely Caramel's memory as a special kind of legacy?
I did sponsor a couple of satin sows in rescue in memory of my Dizzy who I adopted from a local rescue after the loss of her satin companion; it seemed fitting. Dizzy's very loving owner couldn't face getting another guinea pig, but she also acknowledged that Dizzy became depressed on her own. Dizzy came with a very heart-rending letter. I kept sending her previous owner updates and pictures of Dizzy for the remainder of her life once I realised just how much Dizzy loved her previous mummy.

RIP Caramel - you have given your beloved one a happy and very caring life. He couldn't have asked for more!
