Hey all, my parents are concerned to get a guinea pig due to that it may restrict the amount of times we go away. For longer trips to the caravan I would hope to bring them with me, have you got any tips on keeping them cool and suggestions to calm my parents.

Just in case any one thinks I'm too young, I am nearly 18
Thanks for reading.

Oh my goodness, I have 4 guinea pigs, we used to visit our caravan every weekend with them! We had a large cage kept at the caravan and just used a smaller transport cage for them to travel in, we kept hay and dry food there and just took fresh stuff with us, they were no problem atall! We used to use the frozen water bottle trick in the travel cage, they were fine they just slept, and we are talking a 2.5 hour journey each way.

Karonus on here has a touring caravan and 4 piggies and there is no stopping them either!

There really is no excuse not to have piggies just becaus eyou have a caravan. The only one thing i will say is, while you are stayin at the caravan, do not leave them in an awning, especially if you are not there to monitor them, and take extra precautions in weather like this, even though we had a large caravan, on days like this, it would get so hot and stuffy inside, we had all windows open and a fan on.

Sadly I no longer go to the caravan, but it has nothing to do with the piggies atall.

Thank you, people have said in other places they take them but no advice has been given.
By the way your guinea is gorgeous :)

Welcome to the forum!

Toffeewoffee and Karonus know lots about piggies and caravaning, i'm sure you'll get lots of good advice.

Yes she is adorable, thanks! I hope your parents will let you get some piggies. What sort of caravan is it? Tourer or Static?

Do you have any suggestions on how to further pursuade them?
I love animals and had two cats but they passed away years ago and would love a furry companion.

Also i meant to say, my father in law has piggies, they have a static caravan and a touring caravan, and the piggies go with them, same situation as us, they had big cages left in the caravans and just used a small transport cage.

Ours was a permanently sited tourer too.

The only thing i will say is, you have mentioned having a piggy and a furry companion, piggies are best off in pairs, they thrive from company of their own kind, they will get lonely on their own. So please consider getting a pair.

Unfortunately i cant think of anything else to persuade them, other than it is honestly no hassle atall, and there is nothing like sitting outside with the piggies in a run watching them eat the grass!

xx

Of course I would get two , I meant companion(s) and woul plan on adopting rather than shopping :)

Excellent stuff! Get your mum to join adn talk to me and Steve, we'll sort her out :))

Ha, thank you for you help. Hopefully I will be back asking question about bringing them home :)

we always used to take our single boar on hols with us the trio they were looked after by family but as fuzzy bit no one would look after him we used to check in and keep it a secert lol was funny looking back best times ever we used to take c n c grids and let him free roam the kitchen we used our zoo zone to transport him so had a cage if needs be and i had a ruck sack pet carrier if we went out for the day bet i looked a right wierdo we only ever went away out of season so heat wasnt a worry, my mum has a tourer left in same place all the time n i would take my pigs there if my mum allowed without a doubt but sadly there not welcome however i did take him once without her knowing :) i would tell your parents its fine they wont stop you doing anything have a little playpen you leave there all the time and they can have some grass time while you supervise you could have some grids that get left there as can be playpen or cage.

I dont think so, what does that mean ha ha! It was the biggest cage we could fit in the space, think it was about 130cm long?

I'm caravanning in september but not allowed to take the piggies :-( booo hisss

What do people do if they go out for the day like 4 hours, and have to leave their pigs.
How to cool down the pigs in hot weather like this.
Thanks for every bodies help :)

Animal lover, leave the windows on vent so there is some fresh air coming through, a frozen bottle of water wrapped in a towel left in the cage, lots of watery veg, full water bottle and a fan.
