I stick some hay in the toilet paper roll and mine eat both the hay and the paper roll. They don't eat much of the paper roll and they never got sick from it. Most members here have also told me it is ok to give them paper rolls.

It’s nothing to be concerned about unless they seem to want to eat it instead of there normal food, I would also advise that the cardboard you use isn’t toilet roll, as this is unhygienic and can cause illnesses and diseases. If the case becomes serious and they start eating it at a too fast rate and it concerns you, get some twigs for them to chew on because that helps grind teeth.
