Hi all - hope this the right place to post. We are in NYC, and will be taking a few trips this year. We have a week coming up next month and our girls are still very new to our home - they will have been with us just over a month when we go. My current plan is to get a professional pet sitter to come in each day for 45 mins to an hour to play/pet and of course do poo patrol and change food/water, etc. They will have fleece linings by then so will get sitter to change them over in the middle of the week and change the disposable bedding in the kitchen each day. My instinct tells me this is much better than uprooting them and trying to get someone to have them at theirs for the week... am I right?

Thanks

I would say that would be better as they are so new to their surroundings... Get one of those little cameras then you can also keep an eye on them whilst you are away.... :lol!:

I always use a pet sitter, and honestly it is the least stressful option for everyone.
I like knowing that someone is in the house each day, checking the letterbox, opening and closing shutters, etc. and not having to pack up the piggies and take them somewhere else makes departure and arrive back home a lot easier.

I am using a pet sitter as well to come once a day to feed and check on my many piggies. For longer absences I have a friend who is kindly boarding any medical, frail or old piggies of mine that need more attention/observation; even more convenient as we are using the same vet, as piggy emergencies tend to happen at the worst of times.
Staying in their familiar surroundings and being fed their normal food is a lot less stressful for them, but it depends on your local availabilities and getting hold of somebody you fully trust, which can be difficult when relying on family or friends, who are not as experienced and often less reliable than expected. Not every place has got a pet service that is willing to look after guinea pigs or can get to or afford a good boarding service. Finding somebody willing to medicate your piggies can be tricky, too.

Thanks all. Luckily plenty of professional pet sitters here in New York and I’m using an agency rather than an individual.

We have a medium c&c cage which is also on a stand so would be pretty hard to move along with playpen, especially as we don’t have a car...

Thanks again. And will check out the holiday guide. LOVE this forum!
