Sundae has always had a pretty active grease gland. Her hair will clump up around the greast gland and I have to wash it for her (and clip the worst clumps at times.) It doesn't look inflamed or sore at all, but it does seem more prominent than it does on my other piggie (or it could just be easier to feel/see since Sundae is short-haired and Linney is a sheltie cross.) Is there anything I should be doing to better care for the grease gland and keep it from getting irritated or being so overactive?

If you clean it with swarfega or washing up liquid, this an help to clear it. If you do it on a regular bases (depending on how active the gland is) then it should help reduce the inflammation.

I was kind of wondering about this. When I got my guinea pig, he had a layer over the grease gland. It was a sort of black-brown colour and stuck on like a scab. I just washed it a lot till it came away. It hasn't got like that since. Is that just where it built up over a long time?
