While I use washable pee pads for my pigs, they get bedding in their kitchen area and in their hides since they love to potty in there. I have been switching between All Living Things and Carefresh bedding because the consistency in both isn't all that great. That brings me to this post...what is with this huge, chunky glob of 'paper' in my recent carefresh bag? This isn't the only portion of bedding like this. I won't use it in the cages...I'm hoping Carefresh can send me new bedding or something because this is not usable for me since I have no idea what it is.

Hi, to my knowledge, care fresh is made up of shredded egg cartons so there is every chance that their machine missed a glob out in the shredding machine and then used the "outer layer" over that clump. I don't know if it feels plasticky or smells bad. I would contact the seller.

As I am from Europe, I'm unsure as to if there are any better bedding brands out there but know of Small Pet Select, All Living things and KAytee clean and cozy unscented bedding. Hope this helped

They told me

"Hi Brooke, thanks for letting us know and we are very sorry. That is what we call "lint" that comes from our process when it goes through the high heat dryers, it collects and is very very difficult to detect and remove from the rest of the bedding."

I use Kaytee Clean and Cozy in my piggies' kitchen area. I switched to Kaytee after finding various unwanted objects in a bag of Carefresh. Maybe try out a few other brands? :)

That's what we'll do. Carefresh was going to send me a free bag coupon but they haven't replied to me yet since then. 🤷‍♀️

I hate carefresh not going to lie. I'll only use it if I'm incredibly desperate.

I find it is incredibly dusty and for some reason every time I used it for my rats they got lice! 😮 And i mean EVERY time. I tried it over different years and different colours.

Anyways, in regards to paper bedding I love Fitch!

Kaytee clean and cosy is alright BUT I found it expensive for the amount you get.

Their consistency has been questionable. Sometimes it has been really hard and rough. I had that issue w/ the store brand I was buying (I work at a vet inside a pet store so we get a discount), so I end up switching brands a lot. They sell All Living Things (petsmart brand in USA), Kaytee, and Carefresh. I really want a non-bedding alternative but I'm having a hard time finding something that isn't super pricy- I want fleece squares or something to put in the pigs' houses since that is where most of the bedding goes, as they potty so much in bed.
