This may be a strange question... however I bought three bags of Carefresh for my guinea pigs. I used one up and noticed it was a lightish gray color and it had no smell. However I opened the other package and noticed it was darker and it had an odor, perhaps it is of the fiber it was made from? I was just wondering why one carefresh would be different color and lighter shade, and why the other is a little darker and smells different? Should I be worried? I was concerned this would be unhealthy. Please answer soon. Thank you very much.

Different batches from different paper and possibly from different manufacturing sources. The colour and smell do not affect the quality.

Yeah i have noticed that the coulour of the carefresh is different from bag to bag, but haven't noticed a change in smell :)

I wouldn't worry about it. I believe by far Carefresh is the best to use, and it's from paper so different batches of paper will obviously produce different colors and smells, though I've never noticed a change in smell either.

carefresh is wood pulp so it could be something to do with the wood.
