Caring for a gp postop

Sidrun has just been neutered yesterday. Since I know how to perform injections and my mother is a doctor as well, we made a decision with our vet that injecting medication (antibiotics and pain killers) every day would be more efficient than feeding them to him (he does NOT accept medicine through feeding at all). All of you vets and veterinary nurses out there - you are doing an amazing job! Performing injections on guinea pigs is SO much harder than on humans. My question is - if anyone has done the same, how have you gained your guinea pigs trust again? He definitely seems more scared of me now than before. I am afraid that once the week is over, I am going to have to start the process of taming and gaining his trust all over again. I am afraid that he is forever going to associate me with needles and pain

I am quite surprised your piggy won't have painkiller via mouth like meloxaid as most piggies love the taste - some of mine have become meloxaid junkies! I did have to give a course of Marbocyl via injection once and as you say, injections are not as easy as the skin is quite tough. That piggy was not impressed with me at the time but he did forgive me - it just took some grass and herb treats.

Good for you being willing to inject his meds.
It’s not quite the same but when Jemimah had a nasty abscess and I was taking her out twice a day to flush it she reached the point where she ran for cover every time I came near.
Eventually I think she forgot what I had done and our good relationship has been restored.

I’m sure that Sidrun will forgive you especially when you provide him with a wife
