Just after my return from a hectic family visit in Switzerland, @Dindypig informed me that Caron had peacefully passed away. She must have been around her 5th birthday, which makes her one of the longer lived piggies of the infamous large Lymington rescue from a rat infested hellhole in 2010. The Lymington piggies were all rather similar looking coronets or shelties with masses of fine hair to the extent that you couldn't see any skin at all, which was a real pain when it came to grooming.

I fell in love with Caron, because she was my childhood dream piggy come true - about 30 years later - and she met the Tribe on my birthday in 2010; which was one of my happiest birthdays. She was rehomed from Honeybunnies rescue near Leicester; the rescue has always been kept updated of any developments.

Caron turned out to be quite a complex pigsonality with some very specific likes and dislikes when it came to other piggies and she had some rather sneaky ways of making sure she got her what she considered her due! It took about two years to get Caron to snatch a treat from my hand with an attitude of "If you REALLY insist on it", not because she was afraid of me... Eventually she came round to idea of begging!

This got her into major trouble after Ffwlbri de-throned the old Tribe matriarch Nia in a coup d'etat. Caron never fully accepted it and continued to harrass Ffwlbri while she was on the other hand not able to stand up to the other Tribe sows. Sadly, any attempts of settling her in with one of my other groups failed due to Caron's attitudes towards dominant piggies.

Thankfully, she found a wonderful new home with a smilar lifestyle to mine with Dindypig and his much less hierarchical group. Caron and her Lymington sister (?) Cupcake had their little tussles, but Caron settled in well and quickly regained the weight she'd lost during the Tribe upsets. She couldn't have had a more loving permanent foster home! It was very gratifying for me that Caron was always extra relaxed when I cuddled her on visits and that she listened attentively when I was on the phone to Mark. Her happiest time where the last months as her last husboar Zumzum's top wife; Caron clearly enjoyed being his adored First Wife - the pinnacle of her lifelong ambitions!

Mark, his partner Alison and I all miss our glamorous diva Caron very much!

Here are some memories of her:

It took a while, but in the end even Caron couldn't resist in joining in with the begging choir!

Caron body checking the kibbles bowl - one of her favourite hobbies! Another was sleeping under water bottle or at the top of the hay loft ramp.

I'm so sorry for your loss. At least she had a happy life with both of you. Popcorn free beautiful Caron x

I'm so so sorry. she was so beautiful & lucky to have you.

I might be totally wrong but think I read about that on this forum called rabbitire home or something recently. Did it happen in 2010 where a woman had 100 gps and like 50 rabbits and was going to have them pts if no1 would take them?

I don't know the name of the breeder and have only seen pictures of the most horrific place, but the numbers and the time are right. It was one of the more memorable large rescues in recent years that involved a good number of guinea pig rescues pitching in to cope with the influx. Sadly a number of piggies didn't make it (some due to abscessed rat bites) and several sows were pregnant (thankfully not Caron). :(

I just found the link again, it was in lymington. Might well be. I'm so glad you got her :) must have been paradise coming to stay with you after such a hard time. x

It most definitely was. The place couldn't have been any filthier! :(

Ohh what a beautiful life she ended up having despite the awful start. It sounds like she sure made up for it in buckets of pigsonality!

RIP Caron x

What horrible news to come home to, I'm so sorry. She was stunning. I remember reading about the Lymington rescue :(
