Hiya, i put my pigs Faelan and Ferran in the indoor pen on the sitting room floor, in the pen there was a bowl of dried food, a bowl of fresh veg, a pile of timothy hay with a herb mix scattered in it, a hidey and several chew toys to keep them entertained. I went to the kitchen to make a drink and when i came back in i caught Faelan pulling out the carpet fibres and eating them ( i have a 1pence piece sized hole), so he has eaten quite a few. I should also state that the pen was sat on a blanket which clever Faelan managed to pull to one side to get at the carpet. Any suggestions as to why he's doin that and how to get him to stop ? i wondered if it was an attention thing. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Piggies can do things like that (our carpet fringes have certainly suffered!); they can also get into wallpaper, insulation thread on radiators etc...

The only way to stop them is to make it somehow impossible to get at it; perhaps by more solid covering and making sure that he can't pull up the edges?

"No" is not a concept that guinea pigs deal with well, especially not in the face of temptation and sheer curiosity!

Thanks for the info Wiebke, i was a bit worried it was because of Fergus' absence and attention seeking. But he's been popcorning around the indoor pen all evening with Ferran (1st time Faelan popcorned since i got him :<>), so i know he's happy.
