Hi

My boar carrot finished a course of metacam about five days ago after suspected cystitis. He has lots of blood in his wee.

He is still eating and drinking and hasn't been losing weight but the bleeding is getting worse. He doesn't seem to be in any pain or squeaking when he wees which is strange.

I have just spoken to the vet who now wants to book him in for an xray tomorrow and has said if he has stones then he will need to be operated on.

I really hope that we can find out what this is and get him better again. He has only had metacam, no other treatment.

If anyone else has experienced something similar with their piggies I would be interested to hear what happened

Very worried its something serious now :...

Are you sure the blood is in his wee and not his pooh or just coming out of him? Peronel was bleeding and treated for cystitis. It did not help and I suspected a kidney stone. It turns out she has a kidney infection. She is very poorly and has a tumour on her kidney. I am sure it is nothing so serious but maybe it is a stone or infection with carrot. I hope you find out what it is and he recovers soon.

Hi Piggy fan

I have just read your post about your piggy, I am sorry that you had such bad news.

The bleeding is definitely coming from where he pees but looks more like blood coming from him than being mixed in with wee if this makes sense. It is bright red and I have seen some dried blood around his willy and on his tummy.

He seems fine in himself and doesn't appear to be in any pain which is why it is so strange. He will be x-rayed tomorrow and I am praying that it is just an infection that can be treated with a course of antibiotics for a week and they don't find any stones.

x

Awwww I'm so sorry to hear that hes ill. It could be a kidney infection or a bladder infection, Percy-Roo had a bladder infection he was bleeding but not too badly.

I hope the xray goes well and it is a infection and your little one is back to popcorning and causing mischief :)

Huggles to the little one from me and the gang x

If it is coming from his wee then I would say that is a good sign as a kidney stone can be treated.

Thank you

The vet said if it is a kidney stone then he will need surgery to have it removed - I don't know much about kidney stones, will have to read up.

I am hoping it is just an infection that can be cleared up with antibiotics but obviously he needs the x-ray to see if there is anything else causing it.

He is my daughters first pet and she utterly adores him so I am hoping that he will be ok

Hope all goes well with the x-ray and hopefully it's just and infection requiring some antibiotics to clear up. Healing vibes to Carrot x

Good news

Thank you for your messages

Carrot had his x-ray and thankfully no signs of any stones. He is currently on Septrin which seems to have worked really well.

The bloody urine stopped very quickly and he seems to be fine. He has his last lot of septrin tomorrow so hopefully that will be the end of it now.

My children were so upset that he was gone to the vets for the day so are very happy to be able to cuddle him again!

I am so pleased to hear how well Carrot is doing. What wonderful news.

Thanks piggy fan. Thankfully the septrin hasn't affected his appetite and he is a lot better.

xx
