I know this question has been asked before but i`ll ask again lol
Can Carrots be given to guinea pigs everyday ? Because i give my pigs carrot everyday and touch wood have had no problems.. I heard you shouldnt give them carrot everyday as it can lead to problems ..is this true ?

What sort of problems can it lead to aswel ?

Many thanks
arran

Hey arran ...I cant tell you about any problems that may occur with carrots only that I give them to mine and have no probs....I do tend to rotate the veg around weekly rather then give them the same thing everyday tho...

For an extra special treat, try feeding your guinea pigs with the carrot leaves. They will probably love them even more than the actual carrots.

According to Cavy Cages you can give a baby carrot per pig per day. I do this but then my pigs aren't old (Sunshine is 2 next month, he was 3 months old in the pet shop) they can cause a build up on calcium and produce stones so best to lay off large carrots. I always half and quarter them if need be. :)

carrots are high in vit a and sugar which in large quantaties isnt good for piggies and can lead to diabetes but i dont think a small carrot a day will do any harm just not excessive amounts. hope this helps

My gp doesnt like carrots! - only the leaves! x

Following on from Rebecca's post (mentioning the Vit A and sugar), carrots are also high in calcium, which can lead to bladder stones. Too much Vit A can damage the kidneys (I think). A small chunk of carrot a day is fine, or a baby carrot, but I prefer to keep carrots as 'treats'.
