just a quick question...
Our boys are going crazy for carrots at the moment - in fcat they sulked until I gave them some last night for supper - but I'm concerned that too much is not good for them... I am of the opinion that if they want something they can have it as they'll grow tired of it sooner or later but this is turning into an obsession. We're talking at least one whole large carrot a day between 2.

Any views?

i wouldn't worry to much as carrot is pretty good for them,my boys share close to a carrot between them per day and i have no problems,if you sense an addiction may be happening i would slowly cut down the amount you are giving them, but do it over a few weeks so they don't notice;) if they do have an addiction and you continue giving them that much carrot its possible they may turn off alot of other foods, but don't do cold turkey or you will get shocking behaviour,My Boris got a bit addicted to corn so i had to slowly cut down xxxxxx

addiction? maybe, they;ll empty the dish on the floor to get to the carrot pieces first!mallethead

They're so funny about it and really sulked last night when there was none in the dinner dish... silly boys...

I suppose, I'll keep feeding them it but in small quantities.

yes Boris got to the point with corn that he would darg his plate around with his teeth or get destructive in his cage if he didnt have itxxxx

Carrots are pretty high in sugars and Vit A, and relatively low in Vit C, so just make sure they don't get anything else too sugary and slowly cut down the amount. They're fine to have some carrot daily, of course, but I'd be inclined to reduce the amount just a little. :)

that makes sense then that they like it if they're sweet...
They get plenty on the side, no worries...

My piggies Love them as well. What I find helps make it last long is cutting them up. this way it looks like alot. My guys get one big carrot each. when I gave them it whole it lasted seconds lol watching them it looked like parahanas eating meat *laughs*.

*grins* mine are also totally addicted to carrot, they are being a bit stubborn about eating other veg *sighs* wish the woman in the shop had told me *facepalm*

Well, I tried to trick them this morning, put melon instead of carrot. It went well for about 10 minutes and then nothing... Fussy pigs!grrrr

lol to cut down cost i recommend going to country wide and getting the bags of carrots they sell for horses (they are like the funny shaped ones that arnt good enough for retail)

my guineas adore carrots...cant get enough of them...unless your Polo who wont eat anything that has ever been alive....

hehe they are very smart when they want to be;)

they're worse than kids! you can't reason with an animal and you can't exactely bribe them, you know, eat all your cucumber and you can have a slice of carrot or if you're naughty, you're going to bed without carrot tonight...:(
I've always thought that if an animal is hungry, it'll eat what's in front of him, but have found that GPs will just waste away waiting for their fave foods. Rmmmm, fussy pigs...grrrrgrrrrgrrrr

what carrots do you feed i find the best ones are baby carrots or dutch carrots and they are better than standard full grown carrots too x
