Hi everyone,
Has anyone had their boars castrated? We have 2 lovely boy pigs who are the best of friends but would like to have the option of adopting a girl pig one day (one of our pigs is getting on a bit) and think now might be a good time while the other is young. What was the recovery like? Can anyone share their experience?
 
I have had two boars neutered in the past. One went swimmingly well and the other developed a deep seated abscess around 6 months later. There is nothing to suggest that the abscess was related to the neuter though and it could be unfortunate coincidence. Overall if you have a cavy savvy vet then the risks from any operation are greatly reduced.
