cat litter

hi all i was at the pet shop today and i asked a member of staff if there was anything more absorbant than wood shavings that they sell, and he said that i could use wood based cat litter.
please can anybody tell me wether i can use this for guinea pig cages as i was told that i could at the pet shop but wanted to make sure before i bought any?

We used to use this but I think it looks sore on their feet. It scattered about easily aswell. I wouldn't really recommend it.
