Catching and Moving Piggies

Thanks I do try the tunnel and I have a snuggle sack which I herd them into but they are masters of squeezing through gaps and hiding under piles of hay and then dashing under a hides!

Cookie in the video below was like a dream... she'd just walk in the tube

I still recommend the tube technique to this day or a cosy, takes the stress out for them and you

I have had a bit of a breakthrough tonight. I picked some grass and sat outside the hutch and they both jumped on to my lap to have a nibble of grass. They even tolerated a little stroke each! They are good girls really and are learning to trust me.

They are well trained piggies in the video! The problem I tend to find is that because they are outside piggies they dash into the hay filled sleeping quarters and won’t come out without a bit of encouragement.

I say "treat" loudly and my adults pigs are at the bars (indoor pigs) waiting for something. Usually do this and hand-feed, and while eating that, put the rest in their cages. I have to be careful with my sow though, as she has gotten "too excited" in the past and nearly scaled her wall.

Even though outdoor pigs, using a word for a veggie treat (or any treat, even hay tips) as you are approaching, should get them warming up a bunch to you and coming when you call. I have week old pups that are staying put now when I approach the cage and put my hand in, and they'll accept treats from the hand or wait until I drop it below their mouth if unsure, so it's not hard to tame them.
