Dear all
I am getting gps soon ;D I am really looking forward to it....one problem I can see is that we do have a cat....it's a long story but he doesn't live in the house but in the shed ( he loves it he can come and go as he pleases)! We don't have a cat flap and he only comes in when invited or through an open window....does anyone else have a cat and guinea pigs and if so how does it work out? :o

i have 13 cats & never had a prob , but then mine grew up with piggies/chins/bunnys/birds etc, as others have make sure the piggies are in a safe enclouser & it shud be fine, we had problems with a stray starving cat & i wont go into details :'( but if there in a safe enclouser shudnt be a prob :)

I have 2 cats and the neighbours cat often comes around to check whats happening in the run. As long as they are secured in their run and hutch (as cats are quite wise to door latches )they should be fine ;)

i have a cat at first he was a bit bad with them but now he is fine as he has got use to them now i think once your cat gets use to them it will be fine

my cat likes to sit on top of my max's cage he sits on top of max's cage with no problem and gose to sleep

Dear All
thanks for your replies it is really reassuring O0 Sorry to hear your sad story Bramble :( I really feel for you :( I am putting the cage up off the floor so hopefully this will deter him

Thanks Hannah
Hopefully my cat Tim will do this with no problems....he's a real softy at heart :)

my cat hardly borthers with them now even when there in the gardan

i have 12 piggies and 8 of them i have had from birth that was when i had to watch him around them more but now there have got bigger hes not that borthed well my 9 week old boys are still small my other 4 babies are 5 months now

there mummy and daddy are 9 months (all 8 have the same mummy and daddy)

and my 2 oldest girls are 20months

i tell my piggies to tell the the naughty cat to go away too ;D
i aslo tell the cat to be nice to the piggies too

but if another cat coems anywhare near the piggies my cat will chase them away apart from his girlfiend who live up the road

Dear Hannah
Wow you have a lot of gps :) I suppose its like what everyone says its hard to stop having them as they are so gorgeous :smitten: your cat sounds sweet chasing off the other cat! Hop I can get my Tim to do that! I like the idea of speaking to them O0

thanks ;D

he also chased a dog away from the other day too (the dog lives accross the road and is loveley)

My cats don't take much notice of my GPs except when they're jealous of cuddles :smitten: My next door neighbour's cats cuddle up with her GP on the settee :D

since your cat is an outside cat i would just make sure the piggys arent out while the cat is around

I wouldn't go near your pigs if I were your cat. They could just maul your cat there is so many lol.

I have 2 cats & 11 pigs of my own (plus several fosters). My oldest cat I trust implicitly, shes now 7 & actually protects the guineas from other cats who come in the garden. A couple of years ago (when I was not as careful as I am now!) my cat got in the garden run with the pigs & fell asleep in there with them, I came outside to find one of my pigs asleep ontop of the cat! She will groom a guinea if I am holding one & the pigs have been known to groom her.

My youngest cat is about 8 months & I wouldn't trust her with the pigs but is getting much better now she is growing up. I had a group of pigs having a bit of a leg stetch around the yard while I was having a cuppa outside with them & the kitten was with me - being a bit too interested in the pigs. One of my young pigs Wisp decided to approach & chase the kitten which totally freaked her out & has really made her back off.

When the kitten was quite young I had 2 foster pigs in (Wiggy & Rusty). I was holding rusty on my chest while I was watching TV & the kitten came up & laid on my chest too - then started to suck Rustys hair like she was suckling him 98) poor old Rusty was left with a big wet sucked patch of hair on his side!

So in my opinion cats & pigs are ok. The cats will need time to get used to the pigs. Also it does depend on the cat.

Thanks hill 78 O0 Your cats sound so cute! :smitten: I will just have to see what happens.........Tim is quite a feisty thing bt if we are firm I think he should get on fine
