My nieghbour has had three kittens and this week my piggies have finally been let out to graze but the cats sit on top of the runs i keep shuing them away but after a few minutes they come back i dont think they would be able to get to my piggies but i cant settle when they are out and with the summer coming they will be out more than in hopfully wheather permitting does anyone else have this problem x

i have a cat and he sits on top of our guina pig runs awsll

he cant get his paws through 2 of the runs anyway and the other run is a triangle one which he cant sit on anyways
aslong as my cat keeps his paws to himself i dont mind he dosnet really sit and watch them jsut nomally gose to sleep on it

Personally I would never leave a pig outdoors unsupervised, especially if there are cats around. Are your runs fixed to the ground? If not, consider doing this.

If you're in the UK please be careful about putting your pigs out this early in the year. The air may be warmer but the ground is several degrees colder and very damp which can make piggies very ill.

Vtrue as i still havent let mine out the poor things :-\ They are like couch potatoes now ;D The grass is still damp and very cold and even if your run has a top on the run i wouldnt risk any of my piggies lives due to me not watching them play :smitten:

Make sure that your runs are attached to the ground (you could do this with those metal peg things depending on your type of run), also a solid lid that could not be opened by an animal. If you are putting them in their run then really you should be supervising, maybe not constantly there with them but you need to be near by, or checking on them every five minutes or so.

Also, if you're in the UK and your piggies are indoors then it's too cold to be putting them in the run at the moment really, although some days seem warm it's still a lot colder outside than it is inside the house and the temperature differences are not good for piggies at all.

My guineas all go out in runs when the weather is ok and mine and the neighbours cats all come along and have a look. The guineas seem quite interested in them and always come up to the wire to say hello. As long as the lid is secure they will be safe. I don't believe a cat would be able to get to them under the run, it would be too heavy for it to move (the ones I have are anyway). Cats are always going to be curious especially kittens. If you really don't want them near the guineas a water sprayer is always a good deterrent to a cat. It doesn't harm them but they don't like it, but I think you will be fighting a losing battle with 3 of them!
