Bloat you notice when the belly goes hard and inflated. The guinea pig will have no appetite and look off.

If you have a case of bloat you should take your guinea pigs to see your vet as soon as possible. I can kill! In the meantime, try gripe water.

Here is a link to the Peter Gurney health website:

Her belly is not hard, just rounder than my other piggy but she is always first to the food bowls. She is eating fine and running around like a mad thing so seems all ok.

Is it usual for 2 sisters to be so different in weight - over the last couple of weeks, one seems to be putting on a lot more weight than the other ?

Just look at my sisters Nerys and Nia; Nerys is about 200g (7oz) heavier than more active and less greedy Nia!

A firm belly is OK. A bloated belly is painful, and the piggy won't like it to have it touched. It also goes with other signs, the main being loss of appetite and problems with pooing as food is no longer processed/passed through.

If you feed "gassy" food like cabbages, cauliflower, broccoli and kale as one part of a serving of five different veg/fruit a day, you should not be in any danger, as you won't feed big amounts at once.
