I noticed today while cleaning out my Guinea Pig's cage that his water bottle was leaking - and there was a wet spot on the bedding under it (not pee). After messing around with the water bottle I somehow fixed it, but I have no clue how. I suspect it has something to do with the seal on the bottle but I'm not sure. Could anyone explain why this happened and how I could fix it if the problem reoccurs?

Agree with @PiggyOwner. The last one I used was a glass one and it never leaked once I made sure there was vacuum. All the previous ones, made of plastic, eventually ended up leaking!

I know my problems aren't as important as some other people's, but thanks for your help. I'll consider looking into a glass water bottle if the problem becomes frequent & I'll try what you said (even though I have plastic) if it happens again. Thank you!

@Swissgreys
That could have been the problem - ours uses a wire, too. Thanks!

I've found the vacuum doesn't work if:-
1. A small bit of hay has got caught inside nozzle.
2. My boars spit dissolved bits of pellet up into bottle.
3. Change in water temperature, heating coming on indoors, sun coming out outside. (These 2 usually sort themselves after a while).
Saying this my glass bottle has stopped forming the vacuum and I don't know why, no amount of cleaning or shaking has righted the problem so bought 2 new bottles this week, guess it's just worn out.
