Cavies And Bird Poop

Hi everyone,

I have 2 gorgeous male cavies and 1 Indian Mynah as a pet.

I would like to know if the bird poop is going to make my boys sick if it is in their playpen?

Our bird is living kind of free range when we ar not home. I am receiving my boys' playpen in a week or two and I am going to put shading on top so the mynah will not bother them. But obviously she will poop on the shading and it will go through.

Not sure if a bird living in the house will carry any diseases that can affect your boars but certainly diseases are carried by birds out in the wild. I expect if you’ve had the bird for quite a while it should be safe enough but you are wise thinking of using a cover to protect the boars from any poop landing on them when you are out!
 
Will it not affect their respitory tract? Or wont they want to eat the poop

Hi! Bird poo is not good for guinea pigs and can transmit diseases.
Could you cover the top of the run with a wipeable tarpaulin that prevens the poo from percolating through?
 
I can try. Will it be bad if I cover the whole top part of the playpen so they dont see up top? Would it be better to do that instead of normal car port shading?
 
You see, I am not home during the day. I leave half past six in the morning and come home round 6 ish. Maybe then a solid cover for when I am not home and take it off when I am home. Cause the bird then will sit with my husband the whole time
 
I would put an opaque cover on to stop them getting pooped on but also so they can't see the bird above them. Piggies are nature's prey and they are likely to be terrified of watching a bird flying over so protecting them from that view should help them settle in the playpen too
