Ok, not to make you experts think I'm new at cavies, I know about their silly humping behaviors. But just now, I saw the strangest thing. My dominant male just started humping... nothing... litterally. He hopped to a corner of the cage and began humping the air. Haha! weirdest thing I've ever seen. I just wanna know if thats normal! I couldn't find any help by researching this behavior. It was really funny to watch. 'Course not the "after" licking.. that always creeps me out. (yes i know penis licking is normal xP) Still, my recessive piggy does the normal face-mounting, then my dominant just goes off to hump air. Never seen that before! please someone tell me its normal!

I have read that piggies can masturbate. I am unsure if this is true but maybe he was doing that?

Has he got a companion or at least a piggy sized soft humping toy?

I do know boy piggies masturbate but I've never actually seen how. Maybe that's what your boy was doing?

I have seen barney do that twice and it was as if he did it to make his winkie pop out so he could clean it - at least that is what I put it down to.

oh wow! I guess he was masturbating then... HA! thats cute! And Wiebke, he does have a companion named Skruffy (slightly older but recessive). I guess he just chooses not to hump his buddy! Altho Skruffy tries his best to face up to Oni (masturbating piggie) but is just too skiddish to make any real move. It's adorable to watch him waddle around Oni then dash away!

By the way... How long does this whole dominance thing last? I mean, It's pretty clear that Oni is the boss, but Skruffy keeps trying his luck on the big guy. It never goes well for Scruffy... I have to throw a towel on them once or twice a week (I swear I only do it if I see flying piggies) And its becoming a bother to have to stop what I'm doing to watch them 2 to 5 times per day! I cant separate them for too long cause I dont have a second cage thats big enough. I've tried several bonding baths with and without lavender oil (all seemed like successes since there was no fighting) But its just not enough! I swear they are about 1 year old now, maybe even a few months more. Does this happen often? Where one of the cavies just wont stop trying? Please tell me a new way to make it stop or even reduce the temperament of Oni. Oni seems very stubborn and short tempered when Skruffy dances around him. Ugh! I love them tho x'D

OMG ... i guess that was what Caesar was doing the other day! :shh: I'm going to buy him a little stuffed toy today...he looks so lonely and kind of sad ever since Aspen was removed from his cage. Sometimes i wonder if the way we house them interferes with the natural order of things. Like with the same gender pairing and separation...it's like i wish they could all be together without any unwanted pregnancies and fighting but no neutering or spaying LOL just a thought for a perfect world I guess!
