I recently lost my sow in a peculiar situation. She was totally fine acting normal like a happy cavy and then within 8 hours she went from normal to lethargic/not feeling well to just gone. My boar seems to be healthy and eating and drinking same as always.Today though he's been sleeping a bit more than usual. When he's awake he's munching on hay like there's no tomorrow and eating/drinking normal amounts. Is he sleeping because he's bored and lonely? Or is he possibly sick?

I'm looking in to getting him a new partner in crime. Just might take a little time. I'm hoping to find him a friend by this weekend.

Before I go any further though, should I be concerned about his current behavior?

It could be he is missing his friend. However due to the loss of your little one (that I am sorry to hear about) please keep a close eye on him for any further change in behaviour and if in any doubt a quick check up at the vets. Best of luck in the piggy friend hunt and please keep us updated on your little boy.

He's always been super cuddly but since my sow died he doesn't really want anything to do with me. Is it all just because of losing her he's upset?

Piggies can grieve so he could just be grieving over the loss of his mate. If he stops eating though you'll have to take action. My Hazelnut sometimes goes into grieving mode when Peanut Butter has to go in for monthly dental treatment. Sometimes he just wants me to cuddle him. But at other times he just stops eating & goes lethargic. Then I spend hours tempting him with his favourite foods. Eventually he gives in but I have Critical Care on hand for force feeding in case the worst came to worst.

He's doing much better today. Running around and even an occasional popcorn. Took him out to hold him for a bit. He snuggled for about 5 minutes and then decided he was hungry. Whew! I was so worried. I'll still keep an eye on him just to make sure.
