Hi everyone,

I've been perusing the forum for a while now to pick up hints and tips, and would just like to say that the information here has been very useful!

Hopefully this is the right place to post this question, it didn't seem to fit in any of the categories in the care board.

I'm going to be picking up my 3 new pigs from my local rescue tomorrow :) and need to obtain a carrying case. The Oxfam shop up the road has a cat carrier for sale, and I'm wondering whether it would be suitable. I have no idea what animals it has been used for; do you think it would be OK for guinea pigs if it was properly cleaned and disinfected, or would the potential cat/strange animal smell linger and frighten them?

I'd like to support Oxfam rather than, say, Argos, but I also want to do what's best for the pigs. Any suggestions?

It should be perfect. In my experience, guinea pigs on transport want something to huddle together in. Preferably bolster it with a thick layer of fleece (washed without softener) and they will be fine. You can also use the carrier for vet visits.

just a normal cat carrier will do and youre supporting charity if you get it from oxfam :) put hay in so they can hide and wiebke fleece idea is good
hope youre going to post pictures for us when theyre setled :))

Yep, my piggies are transported in a cat carrier too

Our cat uses the same one (obviously not at the same time, that'd be a bit of a squeeze! :(|) ) and the smell doesn't seem to bother the cat or the pigs. They are all used to each other, so maybe that helps too though

I've just been down to Oxfam again, and unfortunately someone has beaten me to it! I'm sure an Argos carrier will be fine (if slightly less charitable).

I'm sure some pictures can be arranged daleksarah, but you might all have to wait until I can coax them out of the various hidey holes in their cage!
