Joining the CCT this year I got two free tests for chirodiscoides mites for two of my pigs. I got the results back today to say that Dory is suffering from a mild case of these mites and Vedra recommended that I bathe Dory once a week for three weeks in Flea or Die. I just wanted to ask anyone if they'd used Flea or Die and whether they use the dog/cat/horse one?

Just feel a little odd putting shampoo for horses on my pig...
Thanks for any help/advice x

Hiya,
I've never used it before so can't really help but I always use ivermectin based products to treat parasite infestations both on my own pigs and clients' at my practice. The product marketed for small mammals is Xeno 450 or Xeno mini (weight dependant). You should be able to get it from your vets or the internet without prescription. Treat for the accurate weight of your pig as reccommended on the pack once a fortnight for 3 treatments. Make sure the cage and any other bedding is cleaned & disinfected before putting your pig back after applying the treatment each time. That should completely eliminate any ectoparasitic infestations.
Hope that's of some help,
C
xx

I keep meaning to send a sample off to Vedra with my membership. That has reminded me to do it. :)

It's fine to use the horsey one, it's mainly homeopathic and is just a repellant to mites :) Can be used on rabbits too x
