Challenges For Tea Cake - Uri And Testicular Tumour?

I was wondering how Tea Cake was getting on but I didn't want to pester you Laura.
The news is very promising, especially encouraging that Theo of all guinea pigs is helping out with the eating issue.
Come on Tea Cake spring is round the corner, you'll soon have fresh grass to chew on.
Thanks Val @worried val of york - yes you are right that Theo is not the best eater still - he has to have a top up syringe feed every night too! What a pair. I am keeping them side by side for a few days but Tea Cake is still quite grumpy and fragile so will wait a bit to remove the divider but hopefully soon.

Well it is a month since his complex op and Tea Cake is still not that well but we are trying to boost his strength. Weaning him off meds (being guided by vet) but can't keep his weight on without top up syringe feeds still - four a day ideally. Having Glucosamine also. I wish I could post he is putting on weight and eating lots of veg and hay but that isn't really true. Come on Tea Cake.

He has been in a side-by-side set up with Theo for over a week and going to try them properly back together this afternoon in a bonding pen. You might think I am being over cautious in the rebonding post illness but it is worth remembering that Tea Cake took 12 dates to find Theo so he has history!

:hug:Oooh good luck this afternoon, I hope it's a happy reunion for them both. With a bit of luck he may start eating more if Theo starts tucking into the same pile of veggies as Tea-Cake's. Fingers crossed x

Thanks @Critter - rebonding was not good! TeaCake was v defensive - with teeth involved and ended in furball. Think he stills feels ropey. Back to side by side living for now :(

So sorry to hear the re-bonding didn't go well . I was keeping my fingers crossed. Hope he picks up and starts eating again soon.

Aw no. Sorry to read that, perhaps it is as you say, he's feeling too rough to share. x

I am sorry to hear the re bonding didn't work out this time Laura. But Tea Cake knows what he wants and its just not the right time just now. As long as Theo is nearby that will keep them both happy.
Its a shame Tea Cake isn't eating more by himself yet, but I hope he accepting his syringe food without any problems.
It is still early days after such a major operation. Fingers and paws crossed at this end for Tea Cake.

Its such a shame that they are not able to be together at the moment but at least they are nearby. I do hope that you are able to reduce the syringe feeding, it must be so time consuming. Hope that the family do their bit!

I cannot contain myself anymore @lauraboara. How is Tea Cake?
Thank you Val for asking after Tea Cake. It isn't good news I am afraid which is probably why I haven't posted because it makes it more real when you write it down!
After more tests and a failure to put weight back on despite top up feeds etc the conclusion is that he isn't going to recover. Which is pretty heartbreaking and perhaps I should have had him PTS pre op but I wanted to try for him as he is a strong boy, no significant illness until now (i have had him from 6 weeks old). But he is doing OK on just metacam once a day and some top up feeds. He is quite cheery in himself now and I spotted a sneaky popcorn yesterday:love:. He will not go back with Theo though - attempts at re-bonding but have just been pretty violent so they are side-by-side with a grid between. Theo is not impressed by the grid but I have no choice - and then they sleep together with grid in between :mal:!
So we are focusing on enjoying him for however long he has before he starts declining but he is stable for the mo. I am pleased he will get some grass time soon.
Hope your boys are all good @worried val of york

I am very sorry that the news is not good. Enjoy every day as a precious gift that Theo is well enough to enjoy himself!

Such a shame that they will not rebond, but l am not surprised. At least they are close by. Glad TC is still enjoying life. You are doing a fantastic job Laura x

Oh Laura so sorry to read this. He is gorgeous and you are giving him 5* treatment and love. I hope he continues to sneaky popcorn and enjoy the time he has left x x

Oh Laura so sorry to hear about Tea Cake - I thought it may not be good news. But it does sound as though he is still getting some enjoyment out of his life so you are doing the right thing by him. It is never a pleasant experience when the vet tells you there is nothing more can be done. I know you will be keeping a very close eye on his welfare and as Wiebke says just enjoy every day he is with you.
Thanks for asking about my boys Laura, touch wood they are all in good health. I am hoping to get them outdoors soon but I have a small north facing garden that keeps cool even when sun is shining elsewhere so they will have to wait a bit longer before their outdoor adventures begin again.
Give Tea Cake and Theo a hug from me. Take care Val x

I am sorry he is living on borrowed time :( I lost my heart pig in Feb after 5 months on meds, she had a mass in her chest which was causing her heart to fail & it started to become more solid as time went on, making her breathing more difficult. However she had a good few months & a good quality of life in that time, even up to the day before she passed she was wheeking for her veggies. Her passing was peaceful at least. Enjoy every precious moment with your boy xx

We are trying really hard not to think about what is to come and just enjoy these weeks. Tea Cake has always been a mummy's boy and always gives me a nuzzle before his top up feeds . It is hard tho when u have battled to get them through an op and the immediate post op bit and then find they are not going to get better long term. I think this my 4th experience of that scenario

It is very gutting every single time. All you can do is give them whatever chance you can; and you are doing that. At least you have got this precious special time with Tea Cake.

The rest is sadly out of our hands. :(
