Currently my three are on SS Guinea pig, I changed them over from Excel when I got them as my bunnies are on SS therefore I know how high quality it is.

However, at the moment it's proving very difficult to get hold of locally and they get so much more than the bunnies get so it's getting quite expensive :red

I don't really want to go back to Excel, as the only place I know I can get it is P@H and I point blank refuse to go in there.

So, two questions really!

1) Can i reduce the number of pellets the guineas get to make the bag of SS last longer? The buns get 6 pellets each daily which means the bag lasts over 4 months. The guineas get 2 handfuls between the three of them daily, meaning the bag lasts about one month. I know the bags always state more than you should give, but to be honest I'm always unsure how many pellets to give the pigs!

2) I've identified a brand that ASDA sell (we do online shopping there) called Harringtons - does anyone know how decent it is? It's 17% crude fibre

Yes they are the wagg optimum pellets (just now re branded) they are very good quality and highly recommended, piggies love them, they are often on offer in Asda too.

Just remember to sloly introduce any new foods so to avoid any tummy upsets.

Oh! I was looking for the Wagg Optimum.

That's brilliant - I'll get a bag next time we order so I can change over :(|)

Do you know if 2 handfuls between 3 pigs a day is too much or too little?

How big are your hands? :))

Ha ha sorry couldn't resist. I'm not sure on what the intake is, if i'm honest my pigs always have a full bowl, usually topped up once a day sometimes twice and thats between 3. some people limit their pigs to a tablespoon each a day but when you have 3 pigs together and one food bowl its not as easy as that, so i just make sure they always have a full bowl, non of them are overweight or unhealthy so its good enough for me.

There's always marsdens food 15kg rabbit pellets and 15kg Guinea pig pellets .... £17.53 including delivery for the lot!

EBay!

Quite small :(|)

It's just having a bunny that gets excess caecs with more than 6 pellets a day, I'm always quite cautious I'm giving the piggies too many pellets. Also I don't want to overload them with pellets so they don't eat enough hay mallethead

I think I'll keep going as I am, they all seem nice and healthy. The only thing I worry about is them not getting enough Vitamin C :...

What veggies do you feed, brocoli, peppers, cabbage, sprouts are all high in vit c, otherwise you can get suppliments, but not to be disolved in their water as you cannot control the intake.

I found some links for pellets:

They generally always have pepper, then occasionally carrot, brocolli or cauliflower and they always have some kind of 'leaf' in their dinner which varies; spring green, watercress, curly kale, spinach, cabbage, For example last night they had curly kale, watercress, red pepper, carrot, brocolli and a bit of basil. It's funny as I always thought carrots were a good vit c source!

They also get parsley, basil and coriander (but only a couple of leaves) as I grow these in my room for them.

Thanks for the links :)

No carrots are too high in something (cant remember what mallethead vit A maybe...?) so should only be fed 2 - 3 times a week, i am sure there is other veggies good for vit C, maybe this link will help

Yes they only get carrot a couple of times a week as it's high in sugar :)

They only thing they get most days is pepper (either red/green/yellow/orange) and some kind of dark green leaf and a few sprigs of herb

Thanks for the link :)
