My husband and I have been talking about getting piggies for our daughter for Christmas and we've realised it isn't going to be practical or possible to get them as a surprise. We are as bad as kids when it comes to surprises! It has to be a secret and we don't have our main presents until we come home from spending the day with family so it was a nice idea but it's not in the piggies best interests to be hidden somewhere overnight and brought out in the evening and then moved to her room at bed time.

So we have decided that they will be a birthday present. Her birthday is at the end of March giving us time to get everything necessary and hopefully go to Glynneath - unless we find a rescue pair closer to home of course.

Five months seems ages away but once Christmas is over it won't be too long at all.

So no piggie shopping for me just yet but I will stay around here and drool over everyone else's piggies until I start planning our own piggie home.

You can always save up to buy a large cage bit by bit! If you are going for a C&C it will be easy to hide as it just looks like storage cubes until built up :)

The wait is totally worth it :D

That sounds a good idea, you will find that a lot of rescue would not rehome over the Christmas period anyway.

I have that (I inherited it with an adopted pig) and it is good but you may find it easier to get the pigs out of a Ferplast 120 as the whole front opens up. My Skyline I took the roof off so didn't have any issues but I would have found it difficult with the small door.

I'd thought of that but I spoke to Suzy from Glyneath and she would have been happy with the timing - it wasn't as though it was a spur of the moment thought, the only problem was the 160 mile round trip to visit her at the rescue. But now we are looking at the end of March instead we can make plans to visit her nearer the time.

That is a great idea as it does take time to sort everything for them, and will give you more time to read through all the forum has to offer in way of tips and knowledge.

I have recently bought that cage - it was meant to be a temporary cage for when the boys came in the house for cuddles, but now they are staying in for the whole winter I am going to make sure it opens up during the day onto a larger play area for them and then in the evening they can be closed in again (because the cat may have plans if I don't). Following tips on commercial cage thread you can fully open up any of the sides and in my review on their you can also sit the base in the cage top and use it like an open cage with high side (shown in this pic).

Its a good cage, I hope to source a stand with wheels so it can be moved around for easy cleaning too, but had I know there might have been a chance my OH was going to decide it was ok to keep the boys in I may have gone for a 150 long one - as my two adult boys are quite big, and a lot of piggie pics of cages show young piggies in them which make the cage look huge - which it is, but definitely bigger is better!

I plan to build a mezzanine level which wont add space but will add interest for them, and once I work on the OH a bit more I might get another and join it....:shh::lol!:The Boys.webp
this pic really shows how big my boys are in that cage - hope this helps!
