Been to the vets this morning. She told me they have changed the licence on Metacam to include a higher dose for guinea pigs.
Ginny is on it for life due to spinal pain. She was off licence at 0.4ml twice a day. Now she is allowed up to 0.46ml twice a day, so is back in licence.
Someone's done more research on Metacam usage in guinea pigs and found it to be safe at higher doses than before.
Brilliant news for us piggy slaves.
On a separate note, the vet had a student in with her today. She told the student they are the most spoilt guinea pigs she sees lol. I feel like I got a gold star :D

Here they are having a sprout for Xmas dinner.

It's great when research is done into the less known about areas in veterinary care. It sounds like you're doing a great job! And it's always so nice when the vet gives praise for the care you're providing, makes you feel like you're doing it right 😊

Hi!

Recently cat metacam (1/3 of the strength of dog metacam, which used to be more commonly prescribed for guinea pigs, especially for guinea pigs with chronic problems) has been officially licensed for cavies.
Please make sure that your vets have not simply switched the prescription and are forcing you to buy smaller and more expensive bottles of cat metacam much more frequently as you have to give three times as much volume in cat metacam than in dog metacam.

Thanks. I've got the dog strength stuff.
