so today I'm planning on changin from sawdusrt to newspaper with a fleece on top
this is just a big fleece blanket i have lying about to see if it suits us and the pigs better..
I'm sure it will as they seem to love soft undetfoot and I'm sick of sawdust getting everywhere.
today i went to pets at home n got some log huts a wooden chew
timothty hay n a hay rack
and ive just irdered a soft bed from cavy courture
i know they will love it
they seem to like that ive put the new toys in and going to clean them out later
is newspaper and fleece ok for now?
untill i can buy like a fleece liner etc

I use fleece with newspaper underneath and dont have a fleece liner and my piggies seem fine with that set up =]

I use fleece and towels. I think the towels do a great job of holding the water. I am so pleased you are no longer going to use shavings. Your piggies will love fleece. :)

well i used shaving as it was all i had already for the rabbit
and we got them in quick circumstances so was a bit rushed
I'm going to use newspaper n fleece for now i know they r gonna love it under their feet lol
how often do you wash the fleece after pooper scooping everyday lol

:)) Your piggies will love the fleece :))
I used to find I had to wash them about every 3-4 days but they wash and dry really well. Lots of lovely designs and colours around so you'll end up with piles of them :(|)

I'm sure they will much prefer it :(|)
I do a layer of news paper (as much as i can) then i have some old towels which are now set aside just for the pigs, then i put fleece down, i personally buy the 150cm big ones and fold them in half, i found having the extra layer meant the top stays dry. Remember you'll need to wash your fleece first if you havent already and do so without fabric softner, otherwise the pee sits on top, i think the softner leaves a waterproof barrier on top.

My fleece is changed every 4th day but i do have washable bed pads underneath mine - i would suspect with only newspaper underneath you'll need to wash the fleece/change the newspaper every couple of days.

If you have any old towels these work great underneath fleece and makes it extra squishy under piggies feet ;) - i used to use newspaper/towels and fleece (i used to do a couple of layers of newspaper followed by 2-3 layers of towels and then topped with a layer of fleece) - it worked great and when i only had 2 pigs it was changed every 3-5 days - any longer and i found it started to smell

ive changed it to fleece n newspaper n they seem to be out n about a bit more.
with a fleece scrunched up in the corner untill my cavie bad arrives for them.
i think ill need to get some more fleeces though

One of my guineas hated wood shavings, he kept sneezing, bless him.

Fleece and news papers are great but its a bit thin and doesn't absorb their pee very well and fleece stays bit wet. this means you will have to wash it more often.

I would advise using an old towel as well as news papers and fleece on top. This should absorb the liquid faster and stay dryer for longer.

also check this out, very helpful:

I also use newspaper, towels and fleece. I have added a covered litter box in each of the back corners with newspaper and bedding (usually pine shavings with shredding unprinted newsprint on top) and add some hay in the back of the litter box. It has really saved cleanup, because my two girls prefer to pee and poo in the litter boxes rather than on the fleece. I use a couple of layers of fleece, so most days I just shake out any droppings in the morning and replace the top layer of fleece at night. I change out the towels when they get wet. I replace the litter boxes with clean ones daily.

ok so ive given up with the fleece bedding and changed them back to sawdust today
what a bad mummy i am : (
but i come down this morning and could just smell them a mile off and just thought uggghhh
and i the hubby had smelt it he woul have banished them outside

How about using hay on newspaper if you want a change?
Mine love hay, but they also have a mezzanine level with fleece on it.
They tend to do all their wees and poos on the hay, and when they sleep, there is always at least one of them on the fleecy mezzanine.
Best of both worlds. :)

I too swapped from sawdust to newspapers and fleece instead. My Guinea pigs Pop-corn so much now, especially after Ive cleaned out their play pen. They love the soft, warm feeling under their paws.

I get so carried with spoiling them. Lols. Last week i went to Toys R Us and brought them a play mat. They love it :-)

I find fleeces and play mats far easier and much cleaner. I wash my fleeces everyday and change the newspapers everyday (as these absorb the moisture quite a bit) to maintain a nice clean environment for them, but obviously this will be different for everyone depending on how many GPs they have, the space covered....etc, etc.
