At the moment max's cage and holly and meggie cages have farm hay

now my other 2 cages lillys cage and aflies cage have pets at home tomithy hay

i have decide I'm going to get lilly and aflies cage on to the farm hay

as
1)farm hay cost less
2) dont make as much mess
3) and it will be better for them
4) wont make them stick

the reason i changed them to pets at home timothy hay was that when aflie and amber (amber lives with lilly) whee about 3 weeks there got some sarby thing next to there eyes i dont know if it was that hay or what but i changed the hay to the dust free hay

now there eyes have been for over 2 months now anyways and the new babies will be 7 weeks on monday and i dont even know if the eye problems was to do with the hay or not anyways

i still have som of the pah hay left so going to use that and mix the farm hay in with it untill the pah hay has been used up so I'm not going to buy any more pat hay

it was costing my £30 every 3 weeks
the farm hay i ge a big bale which i dont know how much it is bt give my dad £10 as he gets it for me as he is a milkman and one of his costrums dads has a small farm so this man buys the hay of somebody and my dad buys it off him and its really good hay aswell
my dad use to get the hay from the farm where he has he fridge to store all his milk but it wasnt there good from there

So I understand that Alfie and Amber had eye problems (scabs?) near their eyes and you think it was caused by the timothy hay?

It seems fine to use the farm hay for all of them, which is what I'm going to start using for everyone when we can get some :)

As long as its good hay it doesn't matter what sort you use. If you can feed a variety then great, but better that they have a constant supply than a little bit of expensive hay 'now and then'.

I took it as she thought the farm hay caused the eye problem, she thought.. if the eye problem continues, I would feed them the pah hay.. might be a little bit more expensive.. but atleast you won't have big vet bills if they have problems with the dust.

I use good quality medow farm hay for all my lot and buy 50 bales in at a time for the goats, medow hay is a lot softer than seed hay.I pay £2.50 a bale for my square bales. This time of year its getting harder to find good quality hay as its what farmers have left from last year and this years isnt ready yet

well i use farm hay and find it brillliant but i supppose it does depend on where you get it

mine have always had meadow hay from a farm on the Island its delivered to me by Mick the farmer who loves seeing the pigs and occasionally brings his grandaughter round to see them, his wife is lvely and I only ahve to phone and see its me and she says ok there on the way and wallah its delivered in my shed how mcuh better can it get, a few things to be wary of make sure there no thistles just remove them not a problem and I have on occasion found dead field mice, again not a problem its proof the hays fresh I guess, I wouldn't use anything else, newspapers are delivered from my local shop my hairdressers dad and mum and dads old people from their bingo club at the moment I am over run with papers but its better then not enough,

when aflie and amber was born there was born on to the farm hay and when there was about 3 weeks there got srabs on there eyes i think it may of been fungal (how ever you spell it) but i changed the hay to the dust free hay and thats why i got the PAH timothy hay i dont know if it was the hay what coused it or not

Yes I realize that. I was just saying - if you notice the eye thing happening again after you start them on the farm hay, you may need to switch back to the pets at home timothy hay.

My hubby works on a farm and I buy hay from the pet shop because I know rats are sometimes around farms and can run through the hay, don't know if it could be contaminated. Obviously farms try to get rid of rats but with the best will in the world rats are rats aren't they and are resiliant and persistant.

ok so yestday when i cleaned them out i putthe farm hay at the bottom and the PAH hay at the top but put more fram hay in and there love it
