I know you are supposed to do this gradually but I haven't ben able to.

I posted a thread a while back on white maggot things in the hay....well it came to light after much head scratching when the things were to be found in the kitchen on the ceiling in the cupboard where I keep all the dog, cat and guinea food that their gerty guinea was infested with them I only discovered this as I had it in a tupperware container and I saw one crawling up the inside...yuk yuk yuk! I threw the whole lot straight into the dustbin.

I have just gone out and bought P&H muesli and Supa Excel which i have mixed together, they seem to be not touching the excel and pulling it all over the floor to get to the muesli. The thing that concerns me most is that all the packets said you should do this gradually BUT I couldn't bring myself to buy gerty after that experience. I suppose I sould have taken it back to the pet shop but my immediate response was to bin it straight away.

Sorry for the long post but I am very worried I may upset their delicate digestive systems with this sudden change. Help and advice will be very gratefully recieved. By the way they are four and a half and I adopted them six months ago. their previous owner always fed them gerty so i carried on even though I didn't much like the addtiives.

They will probably be fine, just don't give them too much and feed them lots of veggies and hay still. If they're not eating much of it don't worry. Lots of people change food quickly (I mean, people who don't know that they should do it gradually) and their piggies are fine.

They should be ok, Eccles was on Gerty when I got him and I changed him over after 2 days of gradually doing it. He ended up not eating it and going to the pellet bowl which I had for Cuzzy and then for Pudsey as Pudsey was on p@h Pellets when I got him. :)

I think they should be ok, a lot of people dont do it gradually, its just a 'better safe than sorry' thing :) i think if you put their old mix in with a new one they probably just eat whichever they like best anyway to be honest! x

I change mine over once they finish a big 15kg bag and change their food every month to a new one if i can and i dont see anything wrong with it as i get to see what they like etc and its doing them no harm - thats my opinion though and will always do it :)

Many thanks for your replies, fingers crossed they will be ok, they seem to love the muesli and not like the supa excel, which looking at the packs is much better for them BUT I suppose if they are used to gerty the muesli is most similar which is why I bought it. They always have their fresh hay and have veg in the morning, afternoon and evening. Used to have veg twice a day but seeing as mummy is a soft touch they get a fresh ved treat when i clean them out in the afternoon too. Pea shoots are their absa loot fav at the mo!
