He is good after his neuter and is inside with Eppie his girlfriend cuddling up to the netting but not together for a while until he is safe...the vet says 4 weeks?is this right, plus he has given me Baytril tablets half twice a day, but it is proving very difficult to administer thesemallethead
 
Glad he's back and hope he makes a speedy recovery so he can move in with his girlfriend. I've not been through this myself but having come across other posts I think I remember rightly that 6 weeks is better as there has been cases of pregnancies in the 4-5 week period after the op - luck shots!
I've only ever had Baytril in liquid form so can't help on getting him to eat tablets I'm afraid - wrap it in a lettuce leaf?! lol

I've never heard of Baytril tablets - only ever had it in liquid form. I have administered a few other meds in tablet form though. I just crush the tablet into a powder (using the back of a spoon), then add a few drops of water to it and draw it up into a disposable plastic syringe, to then administer orally via syringe.

Some tablets dissolve better than others though, so try and make sure that it all gets sucked in and squirted out, so he gets the full dose! (If it looks like there's still some tablet residue left inside the syringe, after the first attempt, you may need to draw up a second lot of water to flush all the little bits out.)

Just out of interest, how much Baytril is contained in each tablet?
 
Yeah, that's weird. Personally I would go back to the vet and ask if they intended to give tablets - maybe it was a mistake.
 
I have come across Baytril tablets but it is unusual for it not to be given as a suspension! I pop the tablet on my finger and go in the side of the mouth - behind the incisors - and push the tablet back just past the fleshy cheeks.

I agree that 6 weeks is more ideal, just to be as sure as can be that the sperm really has all cleared.

They are 15mg tabs and I have 5 tabs, 1 tab per day half a.m half p.m.
I have sprinkled it over his food and it seems to have gone.Vet said that the liquid is not liked as it tastes too bitter, stupid thing is I have administered it b4 am going back to change for the liquid.

If you do get the liquid just mix it with some non sweetened fruit juice it does taste awful I have tried it!

Might be an idea to give him a probiotic as well to help his guts and to check his bottom sometimes post castrate boars can have a little problem getting their poo out as the castration can cause weakening of the anus muscles (only temporary sometimes can last longer, some have no problem at all) so keep an eye for impaction.

Which vets did you have him done at? Louise normally uses an injectable painkiller and antibiotic while they are under then no further antibiotics are necessary.

Hi Vikki, went to Eaton Vets where I take the dogs as more convenient for me.Have changed to Baytril liquid today, all is well, any particular antibiotic?

When I went to change the tabs one of the vets said that his daughter always uses the tabs and just makes them swallow them?/
