Not posted on here for a while due to moving house, career etc... However, today felt the need to share.

Charlie my eldest (4 years) piggy is sick. He and his brother were quite poorly when I first had them at 8 weeks. Harry died unfortunately but Charlie is a fighter! Due to the illness as a baby he has suffered from upper respiratory problems his entire life. Never quite this bad though. Yesterday when I was cleaning the cages I let them out for a run. He was already a bit sniffly but no more than usual. Most days he will have a good run around (sniffles or not) but he didn't move at all. I was immediately concerned but just put it down to a bad sniffle. Well, he wouldn't eat or drink when I put him back and as far as I know had nothing today. I took him up the vets about an hour ago as soon as I got home from work. He is on anti-biotics and syringed baby food for the next couple of days. The vet informed me that if he didn't start to pick up by the start of next week its game over :( I am devastated!

What a gorgeous boy Charlie is. I really hope he gets better. Come on little man.

Hi honey, what an awful situation. Poor Charlie, he is gorgeous. Is he eating anything by himself? He will need a source of fibre to keep his digestive system going, so aswell as baby foods, it would be best to give him some critical care or pellet mush, and while he is on AB's - baytril i assume, he will need some pro-bioics as AB's are so hard on the gut.

I hope the AB's do the trick, just keep syringe feeding him often and get as much fibre into him as you can, weigh him daily to monitor him.

xx

Poor Charlie, hope the anti-biotics get your little boy better. If he still isn't picking up over the weekend or his breathing gets worse please speak to your vet about the possibility of giving him a diuretic like furosemide, this may help clear any fluid from his lungs.
Lots of healing vibes to Charlie and hugs to you x

you need feed him with food and water... bio lapis .. recovery mix.... find problem fix ..........................hard job I know no other way...........

I am keeping an eye on him. The anti biotics have gone okay but he is really struggling to accept syringe food and more is ending up on the blanket than in his tummy :( He just isn't himself. It's really horrible to see :( x

He has taken the anti-biotics this morning, some fluids and a bit of syringe food. So far so good. Not much has changed really but I wouldn't expect that yet. Thank you for all the kind messages.

x

His cough and sniffle seem to be clearing up so I think the anti-biotics are working. He is still taking meds, food and water okay. However, he is barely moving and is absolutely exhausted. He was cold this morning but he has been warm for most of the day now with a little help from a hot water bottle and warm blankets. He is still fighting but is no where near out of danger yet. Fingers crossed though x

Sending lots of healing vibes to wee charlie x

need to find good vet to find what exactly problem is and he will fix it if it ever possible.
Weight him daily to make sure he get enough food and not dropping weight.

More healing vibes on their way to Charlie. I know its a struggle, but he is relying on what you feed him to carry on, so try as hard as you can to get as much into him as you can, even if it means using gently force to force the syringe in. Big hugs to you sweetie. x

Thank you for your kind messages. Charlie passed away in the early hours of this morning. He picked up a little on Saturday but went downhill rapidly last night. I am devastated :'( so is Georgie :'( x

I hope Charlie gets better soon. Sending lots of healing vibes his way.

Get well soon little one xx
