Charlie allways seems to have his bottom stuck with poop(not diarrhea hopefully ) , sticky fur . he has tangles everywhere around it, sometimes even hay...
its really cold now so i dont know shoud i give his bottom a wash or not.
i have tried detangling it but Charlie seems to not like it at all and is in pain...
i have heard that guinea pigs dont like being handled around the bottom area...
any suggestions?
I'm still an beginner so be free to teach me anything ...

@urmasdejormas If he's long haired then you'll need to keep his hair shorter to keep him clean.

If not, then it's not normal for them to have a dirty bottom so it would be worth taking him to the vet for a check up.

he does have long hair tho, he has allways had dirty bottom when i have had him.

Trim the hair carefully with blunt ended scissors. If you don't feel confident to do this take him to your local vet nurse. He is at risk of flystrike in the summer so it's very important to get on top of this

Might be worth giving him a bottom bath, but make sure he's dried off thoroughly before putting him back in his housing.

Try as the others have said & trim his bottom hair a bit shorter/thinning it out a bit. This will help to keep him cleaner.

Does he have any signs of impaction.? Poop clogged in his bum? He may need that clearing if he has. A bottom bath would help to soften any impaction too if he has it & make it easier to remove.

Is that him in your avatar... He's very handsome if it is :) :luv:

My long haired boy Finn got his bum bath last Thanksgiving just before weather started getting cold. My boy Finn is an indoor piggy but I am still waiting for the weather to warm up so I can give him a bum bath. I don't want him catching a cold. Finn gets bum baths about every 4 months.

The Ever Beautiful Betsy has long fur and usually has a bum bath and a trip to "the ironing board salon" every 6-8 weeks to trim her bum fur. She is an outside piggy along with the rest of the herd and it has been far too cold to give her a bum bath so yesterday she had to make do with a quick snip around her rear end while she was on some newspaper chomping away on some kale (as a bribe to keep still). I sat her on the garden bench and did the best I could but it was a hack job if I'm honest.

You really do need to keep the fur trim around the bum. If nothing else it will help your piggie be more comfy.
