Charlotte was 11 months old. We let her go to sleep last night after two months of fighting a serious URI/bronchitis. Her breathing was labored and she lost a third of her body weight, despite three courses of different antibiotics, and hand feeding. We decided it was time to end her suffering, since we saw no chance of recovery. We held her for hours before we took her in, and gave her time to snuggle with her bonded partner, Penelope. At the vet, we held her in our arms and stroked her gently as she drifted away. We told her we loved her and we were sorry we couldn't fix her.
We bought Charlotte and Penelope from a pet store when they were 6 and 4 weeks old. Charlotte was the older one. She was quiet, mellow, and loved to be petted gently and scratched on her back. She would purr occasionally, but mostly chirped quietly when we pet her. She was the alpha pig, and the bigger of the two before her illness. While she was sick, Penny would check on her frequently and sometimes snuggle up with her. Char loved running and popcorning around her cage after the weekly cleaning, and wheeking for veggies every night.
Char, we love you baby. You were a good girl and we will miss you. Don't worry about Penny, we'll take good care of her. <3<3<3
