Right at this moment I feel like I'm the mother of two toddlers who are trying to push the boundaries.

What is the best way to let a piggies know they are doing something unacceptable - I have tried sending them to their rooms and to the naughty corner but they just ignore me!

My lounge is open plan with the stairs, we were having floor time. I took my eyes off them for 2seconds and when I looked back Barney was on the bottom step (this is new for them) - I turned away to get the camera for photographic evidence and when I turned back Toby was up there too. I turned the camera on and the little tinkers both jumped down. I put the camera down looked back at the stairs and guess where they were! They were told to get down and I was ignored.

Barney also like to mountaineer down the side of the sofa without any safety equipment other than me gripping on to him for dear life. He has been told many times not to do this but he seems to think he knows better!

I feel I have 2 very naughty piggles who don't like doing what they are told!

When I get my guinea pigs very soon....I will be rewarding them with a treat if they do something well/do what I ask and with a Thumbs up and say ''Good''. But if they do something bad....I will take away treats and say ''Bad'' as well as a thumbs down. I have no clue if it will work (because they're not dogs) but I may as well give it a try! Perhaps you could do something similar, my friend gets a kneeling pad and when they do something bad she will (at a distance) waft the pad once or twice, then they seem to spring into action and behave!

We have clapped at them on occasions, mainly if their playing looks like it might be turning into fighting, but it really scares them so I don't like doing it until they are doing something really bad.

Yes, use it as a last resort ;)

I probably do the opposite of most. If I see one bullying or pestering another one I'll pick the bully up & give it a cuddle. I just don't think they understand when you shout at them. Usually when I put them back, everything's OK.

ah yes - reverse psychology - I like your plan! :))

Sounds very familiar. It's usually Rambo whose naughty half the time! Always pestering the others but always gets told off by them!

My Fred likes to wake me every morning with that wonderful knawing sound that I despise so much, when I shout he stops for a second and then returns to his favourite pass time. I clap my hands he stops again for a few seconds, then he starts again so I get up and shoo him away, go back to bed the noise begins again - this time we've switched positions Pebbles joins in the pass-time, another journey to the cage 'shoo'. Fred's back some more knawing, finally the piggies win I go and get there food and vegetables. We're getting earlier and earlier - they had 5am vegetables just the other day! Ah, all's quiet. The moral of the story is never let the piggies win, otherwise it'll soon be routine! :))

Ps.. I wish I was kidding!

Excuse my spelling :)

If my boys are being very badly behaved I will clap to put a stop to it but it does make me feel bad. One of my brothers seems to have them all under his power though. They actually listen to him. When I asked him how he did it, he said it was like with horses. He blew very softly onto their faces to show he is dominant and teach them his scent, now they respond to him and the tone of voice he uses.

I think it's fascinating!

Sometimes, I don't know whether I own three sows or three rebellious and troublesome toddlers. {:|
One of my ever-so-sassy sows, Mocha, has figured out how to get unlimited veggies. Half way through eating her dinner, she'll pee in her bowl and soil her food so I'll have to clean it out and re-fill it. Cheeky pig.
But that's not the only rebellious behavior they get up to, I also have a pig who likes to rocket launch poo's out of the cage onto my clean floor, I swear I find piggy-poo in the most ridiculous of places.

Have you ever tried the face-blowing thing to see if the technique works?

She has got you well trained? If you left her food with wee in would she still eat it?

Gus used to listen to "no Gus!" in my serious mum voice, but now he thinks it's funny to carry on being naughty and to get little Walter involved! If I do a whistle they stop and look at me then forget what they were up to x
