I'm looking for good quality hay but it's also inexpensive, I currently have the pets at home hay but only because it's massive and last ages, and it's cheap

I think people on here have piggies who like the hay from The Range and B&M....and not too expensive from what I remember.
Ours like P@H hay too and also Burgess but that is a bit more expensive.

I use just for pets, they do a pretty big bag for just over £4, our piggies love it and it lasts a few of weeks. They do a more compressed bale for £2.70something as well which is a bit lower quality but still decent enough.

Is the pets at home hay good? I don't know that much about hay, I have it and it's lasting ages

Can you buy that at pets at home?

I have found with hay it's a bit trial and error. For example I was buying bags from the local pet shop but then we had one bag with little bugs in it so I stopped getting it! Generally I find the P@H is fine and most importantly the pigs eat it. We had one bag that didn't smell so fresh when we opened it but I am not sure if that was because I had kept it in the garage for a while. I did try some expensive oxbow Timothy hay once and they absolutely refused to eat it!

I'm afraid not as Just for pets are a similar store to pets at home, although having used both, ive found the Just for pets hay better quality. They seem to have less stores around than Pets at home though by the sounds of it.

I want to buy Timothy hay but it's expensive, I actually just refilling their hay rack with the p@h hay just there and there was a big stone in the hay?

Sorry I misread the last message, so just for pets is a store? I don't think there's any near me

The small B&M bags are Timothy with Dandelion and Marigold, only £1.99 :)

Mine are also on this hay and when they hear me getting them some out of the storage box, they start wheeking their heads off :xd:

My two like the Pets At Home Timothy hay but not 'regular' hay from there. I like it as I can just about fit 2 large bales in my storage cupboard, plus it's compressed so lasts aaaaaages. As others have said too, B&M is good for treats (I've personally not tried any hay from there), my 2 love the £1.99 filled hayroll hanging snack things.

It's not hay, but I've noticed Poundland has been expanding their pet stuff, I got small log rolls, hanging wood toys and litter/hay tray from there!

I get hay from here;

Hay and Straw

They do three different types and do a trial pack to see which ones your pets will enjoy. Mine like all of them!

I get a big bag from The Range, it's £3.49 my girls prefer it to the bale of farm hay I get for bedding. It does smell lovely and always lots of green in it, lasts ages too as it is tightly packed.

I use the Timothy hay dandelion and marigold and I too get it from B&M, it's the only hay my Guinea pigs will eat, they refuse anything else :D

I switched to Bunny Fresh Grass Hay from Zooplus because it's hand-picked...it says they use careful, traditional harvesting methods. I liked the old hay I bought but I came across a blackbird's wing once when I was putting the hay in their cage and it freaked me out. I told the guy at the pet store who was ordering it for me, and he said they sometimes find hedgehogs in pet hay too.

Hedgehog!

Thanks for posting this, I have just ordered the trial pack. I opened a bag of Timothy hay from P@H yesterday and it really isn't very nice, so want to look for some alternatives.

That's awful, in the hay I use to buy I found three dead mice on separate occasions. I remember one time I was on the phone freaking out to my mum because I just saw a squished clump and a claw, I thought my Guinea pigs foot had fallen off!:td:

I used to use the hay from the range, it is a lovely hay but as it is compressed I always struggled to get it out of the bag. I have now switched to bales of hay from a local farm, they only charge £3.50 per bale and it is nice hay and all of my girls love it.
At the moment the pigs are holidaying with me at my parents house and I am using the large meadow hay bales from B and M bargains and I have to say this hay is absolutely lovely and the pigs love it, it is also really long strands.

I transfer compressed hay to a pillowcase. Makes it a lot easier to handle, and let's air flow through

Yes I now split my hay bales up into garden bags so that it is much easier to handle and use, makes much more of a mess in my shed though!

I empty my hay into a large cardboard box and its pushed under a desk to stop it getting dusty (not that the hay stays inside it for long)
